HO Drag Proxy 9-10 February 2021 RACE REPORT
#21

A week's worth of parcels were delivered this afternoon - in amongst them were cars from Iain, Alan and Clive Thumbup

I will get cracking first thing in the morning and see how much I can get done - tune in lunchtime, through the afternoon and into the evening. I will aim to get Street Stock in its regular Wednesday evening slot. Anything left over, I'll run Thursday lunchtime.

With postal delays postponing all the action to Wednesday, I'll attempt to get through all the racing today - with any leftovers served up Thursday lunchtime.

The schedule may look something like this...

Let's meet the cars....

First are the cars from out west - Alan's quartet (including a fabulous paint job on his 4-Gear Funny Car) plus Laura's Street Stock Aston DBR9.

From Eastbourne we have Jeremy and Jane's Street Stock entries. The Veyron body looks secure Thumbup

Clive's cars have travelled from the north of Norfolk.

Iain's are more local - the south west edge of London - and we have a lovely new T-Jet from him.

Arriving from Worthing are the Burley's cars - Pete, Jerome and Sue. There's an extra Street Stock car and I'm waiting for notification of the driver's name.

The elder statesmen of Team Chesterfield - Doug and David - have a car in each of the three classes.

The two younger Chesterfield racers - Dylan and Noah - have their street stockers, T-Jets and an Aurora dragster each for some Nostalgia Top Fuel exhibition runs.

The first group of American entries include Street Stock cars for Al, Dave, Hank and Jeff - plus a T-Jet for Al.

Bill has a full entry from the States - his pancake cars are the ones to beat.

Finally, the locals - Rebecca and me - adding two hastily-thrown-together 2019 Micro cars for some match racing, plus a slight change in T-Jet and 4-Gear with Rebecca's T-Jet cannibalised for a NTRA racer and the Fighting Irish Camaro replacing my Pontiac, which is returning from NTRA duty on the West Coast of the USA.

That's your 49 cars for this month.

Nostalgia T-Jet Round 1

Top qualifier Iain had a bye in round 1 and set a decent 0.674 second time.

The first race was a classic - Noah and Doug both with quick cars and no traction magnets. After a huge amount of wheelspin off the line, the two T-Jets found some grip at pretty much the same time, giving the crowd a thrilling dash for the finish line. Doug got there first by 0.026 of a second, 0.875 to 0.915.

Race two was a formaility. Clive's T-Bolt beating Al's Willys Coupe by a big margin of 0.494 seconds and setting a time of 0.761.

Andy dispatched David by 0.451 seconds, his ET 0.810.

Second qualifier Bill cruised past last-placed qualifier Dylan by 1.066 seconds, the Torino clocking 0.689.

The best first round race was saved to last. Rebecca's T-Bolt was cruising to the win... until Alan's Anglia hooked everything up and shot through the line 0.038 ahead. Alan has ditched the wheelie bar and gone for weight - guaranteeing a spectacular second half of the strip!

Second Round + Semi

Three second round races and one semi would decide the two cars meeting in the T-Jet final...

Iain's Camaro was no match for Doug in the first race. The green Ford had too much wheelspin off the line and Iain won by 0.287 seconds.

Clive and Andy's T-Jets have met many times since last June. Clive's T-Bolt was quicker off the line, but Andy's Dodge was closer than usual - the winning margin 0.036 seconds. The ETs were 0.770 to 0.792.

The final second race saw Bill clinch a place in the final by 0.096. Alan finished very fast - 9.334 mph - but it wasn't enough. Their ETs were 0.689 and 0.755.

Iain and Clive meet in the one semi to decide who'd race Bill in the final round. Iain clocked 0.662 to win by 0.075, Clive's ET 0.736.

That gave us the top two qualifiers in the final...

Here's the final...

So what happened?

Bill got through the start 0.001 seconds ahead and had a nose in front...

The two cars ran side-by-side down the entire length of the strip...

And this was the result...

You really can't get any closer than that!

Congratulations to Bill on a second Nostalgia T-Jet win in the Winter Series. I suspect Iain will be all out for revenge in the season finale next month!

T-Jet stats and ladder will follow after lunch.

Wrapping up the T-Jets, here is the ladder and the full stats for the elimination rounds...

That wasn't a continental-style 2-hour lunch break... instead there were phone calls to deal with, so I'm already a bit behind schedule. I will now move on to some match racing and then get stuck into the Street Stock qualifying ready for racing this evening. That means you'll have some Thursday lunchtime 4-Gear entertainment to look forward to.
