Happy New Year! I am returning after enjoying slot car racing in the late 60s and 70s. As such I want a scenic track that for nostalgic reasons uses many Scalextric elements from that period. I am not yet retired so in addition to a woeful lack of modelling skills I lack time. I do appreciate there are some professional track constructors out there but much of the job I need doing is sourcing and refurbishing classic Scalextric accessories…
It occurs to me that someone on this website might appreciate that sort of work in addition to creating the scenery I need and so forth. I am happy to pay a very fair price for the job to someone with excellent modelling skills. I have a clear idea of how I want my track and hopefully the forum moderator will allow me to send them the detailed brief for the project so that they can forward it to anyone interested?
I must add that I find this website an excellent discovery - hugely informative and very well designed. As someone involved in the motorsport media, the only thing I can criticise is the apparent lack of ‘About’ information. I would really like to know who is/are behind this brilliant resource… Whoever you are, keep up the extremely good work!
Ian

Thanks Ian, and Happy New Year to you too.
There are lots of people who have contributed to the site, both here on the forum, and in many of the other sections. We pride ourselves on being a website that is owned by, aimed at, and produced by slot car hobbyists, with no other concerns or commercial interests.
Technically speaking, my name is on the ownership documents, but the content on the site has come from loads of people, and it wouldn't be the same without such a diverse range of contributions.
I would be very happy to forward your detailed brief to anyone that is interested, or perhaps you could post some of the basic requirements here, and then anybody who is interested could message you for more details.
Either way, hopefully we can try to help you out.

Welcome aboard Ian and Happy New Year.
It would help if we knew your location for anybody interested in helping with the track build.

Ian. Happy New Year and welcome to SlotRacer.
Just start asking questions. The right people usually rise to the cause, and offer assistance.
My advice for buying cars is... Buy one of everything and try them all out before you choose a favorite!

Hello all and thanks for the replies so far. I am an expat in Italy who co-owns a business in the UK. I am starting from zero and envisage the track being constructed to my brief at the builder’s location and then dismantled as appropriate and shipped either to my company or direct to my home in Venice at my expense. I have plenty of experience of shipping items here from the UK!
I have put together a detailed brief accompanied by a number of sketches. In essence there is a base unit that will be about 4 x 4 x 6 feet and will be designed to flat pack, plus a smaller satellite unit; there is a total area of about 45 square feet to have track and scenery. The track will constitute a hillclimb with two areas within the base unit sitting one above the other.
There are a lot of Scalextric items to track down and refurbish plus plenty of scenery to make so this is a major project. It isn’t urgent and I might decide to have a friend bring it over in a van so sadly that is some months away… It is a lot of work for someone but I am prepared to pay a realistic rate for the job and of course to fund the various purchases they will need to make. As soon as the right person comes along I will put down a deposit so that they can get to work!

Hello Ian, greetings from Scotland.
I'll take the opportunity to praise JasonB's tremendous input. JasonB deserves the gratitude of all of us, being the main driving force keeping the Forum in good shape and introducing new aspects regularly. It is a battle to keep the slot-car hobby relevant to the more recent generations and Jason has been very innovative on that front.
Hope you find people to help with your layout build. You may find that you end up with one person doing the track laying and another to do the scenery, the latter being a more artistic activity whereas the former is largely more technical.
