Dan Gurney's '66 Lola T70 Mk 111 Bardahl Special came from the Facebook Marketplace and was one of several 'Scalextric' cars one seller was advertising, all at second hand Scalextric prices. A great buy, it's just missing the single screen-mounted mirror, its loss not causing any damage to the screen.
Oscar Koveleski's '69 McLaren M6b came from a forum seller and was market price for a lightly used Thunderslot. It's just missing one mirror, which I hope to replace with a 'look-alike' sometime but it may be better to replace both?
Can't favour one car over the other but as per one of my MG Vanquish McLaren buys the red #54 does resonate with my slot racing youth

I've been wanting the M6 for a while, but couldn't justify a full price purchase. Couldn't say no at this price. The 155 will become a DTM workhorse and a test bed to try and unlock it's potential.
I do like the more quirky racers and the Revell NSU line certainly hits the spot. The 'little beauty' on the right was actually a 2021 purchase but somehow got missed. Love the metallic maroon 'Autohaus Tolles' car. Another FB Marketplace bargain (aren't they all ) it really resonated as I have a 1:1 Vin Rouge metallic Eunos VR-A sat on the drive .
The BRM/TTS version was a must. It fit the bill for all sorts of reasons. The quirky 1:1 racer, the 1/24th manufacturer and the colour. Many of my race cars are pink - easy to see and no-one else will paint their cars that colour - but this one is a bit lairy even for me, so I didn't pounce all at once, keeping my eye on it as it languished forlornly on a dealers display at Gaydon. Eventually, as it appeared no-one else was going to give it house room, I took pity on it and a brief haggle saw it change hands. Taking my final haul back to our table, even my usually supportive fellow exhibitor was a bit taken aback when I gave him a quick flash of this one!
However, I have a plan. It might seem sacrilege but I'm hoping to tone it down a bit, starting with a black and white rather than black and pink chequered roof. A decal has already been ordered. If I can fit that succesfully I'll re-assess the appearance, as Phase Two will be irreversible - painting the interior flat grey and changing the colour of the drivers helmet to maybe gloss blue, to match that side decal? Of course none of this might happen, it all depends on whether the roof decal works .......
My final MG Vanquish purchases arrived today from (can I say it?) Phil Smith.
I bought several cars from him at Gaydon and at the time he suggested I check out his website as he'd just bought a collection - and there were my 'Holy Grails'.
I'd been looking for this particular M8E at a reasonable price for some considerable time, as I love the link to Oscar Koveleski's Autoworld - and couldn't pass up such a 'striking' livery. (Sorry, couldn't resist that. )
However, he also had THIS:
An absolutely stunning car with its OTT spoilers and gorgeous colour scheme, this '72 Lola T280 is the one car I'd keep if all the other MGV's had to go!
The photo' doesn't do this car justice - until you double click and enlarge it

I've got that one too!
And these other three... Great cars!
This came up on another forum's Marketplace and as usual, was SUCH a bargain I couldn't pass it up.
Lightly raced and still in one piece, apart from the norm of missing mirrors, it was a nice buy - but see what happened to it in a later 'What's on your bench' post.
I plucked up the courage to race my latest buy, a Thunderslot Lola (my first Thunderslot), it felt very smooth but not as fast as my NSR Mosler but I had to try it, only qualified for the 'C' final but it got better and better as the evening wore on, stepped up to the 'B', won that so was in the 'A' final, 4x2 minute segmented race, which I won by 6 laps, the car is amazing but fragile, only one 'off' in the race, gently nudged into the barrier which split & removed the front splitter, I cant wait to get my Mustang now, to see if all Thunderslots are that good.
As a note on the smoothness of the car, you just settled into a rhythm and stayed there, 'B' final total was 100.74 laps in 8 minutes, 'A' final was 100.75 laps, 1/100 of a lap difference in 8 minutes.
Bernie, racing since 1969
