"And the winner is..."

Petrucci told us about his latest 3D printing exploits, and then showed us the new Porsche body he has invented...it's a low-rider convertible, in that the body only comes up to door handle height due to filament issues. But other prints were coming out just fine. "Anything else to show Petrucci?" "Errr....oh yeah, these arrived this week" and as he showed us slot car after slot car and stacked them up on his desk in front of him, we eventually lost sight of him! JohnK updated us with progress on Greg's Porsche, and it is literally 'shaping up' nicely.

Frank gave us a glimpse of his car heavy workbench and he had a question about availability of tyres for trans-ams. He seemed to have two options; either buy something large from the shops that might fit, or follow Chris's lead and get an old tyre truer, turn your prospective tyre inside out on an old rim and simply cut, file, build-up or smooth off the internal profile of any tyre to match your hub profile...who'd have thought!

If you don't have an old tyre truer you can use for this trick, just 3D print a new one. That is what Henri had done, and so had Brian. It is based on the 'Razor' concept of truing a complete rear axle assembly, but Brian showed you could modify the detailing to suit your needs or preferences. A clear example of how 3DP is bringing previously 'high end' accessories to the masses. Henri had also printed what looked like some very accurately detailed old Land Rovers, together with proper racing chassis. Jeremy showed us his 3D printed wheel balancer, and a Flash Gordon radar speed gun that he had bought to check slot car speeds and provoke anger and retaliation from passing motorists.

Petrucci briefly popped up again still showing off more car purchases, and Brian briefly put his hand up before being told he had to wait until after the first prize giving announcement before he could excuse himself.

Greg randomised the entrants, and the winner of the GG inc. Tyre Razor 3D Printed Friction Plate Motorised Recipricater was...not me. Bugger.

No word from Brian, so it was onto Club Corner, or as it is currently known, Big Den's Club Corner. Tasmania seems to be one of the few places on the planet where old men can group together in the same room without putting their health in any danger. So BD got in all his excuses as to why he had not won the V8 Muscle Car race, the Classic GT race of the Le Mans Prototype race...too old, wrong car, right car but swapped car for something slower to give everyone else a chance. All good reasons, and I've noted them down for when I get back to the tracks. 

John then gave us a rundown of last week's 4hr oXigen digital race in the UK. All quality information if you are new to the world of lane changing and were after key information as to what new skills are called for.

Dewann had a very simple Club Corner question...how should a first time race entrant prepare for their first visit to a club event? Lots of good advice on how to decipher class designations and kit you should/could take with you. Jeremy had a simple question...what height should his new track be if he wants to beat the kids? ChrisGW had a bold suggestion involving ladders and two storey high loops and mile long walks to the furthest bend to put your car back on. That'll show the kids "Who's the Daddy?!" 

Between race meetings, Dewann is on a mission to populate his track with scenery and cars based on his past and on family connections, e.g. cars he has owned, houses he has lived in. What a wonderful idea. There were lots of tips on how to create slot cars out of standard plastic kits by fitting them to universal chassis. Useful information for everyone in fact.

To finish off the chat, after a lot of grown men were heard drooling over a Big Yellow Car, there was a bit of a love-in of small red Italian cars, started by Jim with his formal announcement of the next releases from Thunderslot which involved a Hertz Rental Mustang but more significantly a red Ferrari can-am. I chipped in with a red Slot.it Alfa Romeo 155 I acquired this week, and John chipped in with his T shirt and an AutoArt GT-A. 

And to close, Wayne finally got his modem to click in and he proudly presented...
