Indeed. Yet consumers chose VHS. It was ‘good enough’, cheaper, more widely available and better supported. Consumers also preferred longer recording times (VHS) over better picture quality (Betamax). Sony accepted defeat and started manufacturing VHS machines in 1988.

But in this case 40 years later VHS can’t even count laps.

In 2024 Hyundai sold 4 million vehicles.
Ferrari sold 13,000.
What would you prefer to drive?

It comes back to what suits people's needs - and their pockets. For the vast majority of people, the choice between a Hyundai and a Ferrari is a no-brainer - the Hyundai wins every time. I'm very happy for those who can afford to drive a Ferrari, but I expect they also have a Hyundai (or equivalent) as their daily driver.

You said the 'VHS' doesn't count laps. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that's based on you pushing SSD to the limit with high-performance cars... not the standard operating conditions that most of us use.

We only have your word that Scorpius is better than SSD. Despite being active in digital slot car club racing since 2014, I've never seen Scorpius demonstrated, seen any Scorpius events open to the public or Scorpius owners offering an invite to give it a go. I could go down to a Ferrari dealer today and get a test drive.

You obviously don’t understand “stay on topic”. It’s not a Scorpius post mate. Nothing to do with Scorpius.  Nor is it designed to put SSD down as you wrongly interpret. Maybe you’ve seen videos of me hosting 12 people on a fully landscaped 100ft SSD track in my games room back in the previous home. I’m very pro SSD . Just not happy with the Arc Pro offering.

No they won’t allow walk ins to test drive Ferraris. You can try.

PS. I admire the work you do to promote digital. And I hope you get a chance to try out Scorpius one day.

Is it valid for purposes of this discussion to include such systems that have custom firmware and hardware?

If custom firmware and hardware are allowed for this challenge, then why do you claim that proof of such a system exceeding six cars is misinformation?

What limitations are you imposing on this discussion in order to disqualify the existing evidence that it's possible to exceed six cars in an IR based mark/space identification scheme?

What limitations? Just the fact it druggles on even 1 more 1D.
We even placed IDs in between id 1, 1A, 2, 2A right up to 8 and 8A.
All IDs other than Hornby IDs 1-6 were reliable.
We’re the only team that has tested to such great extents.

So on that basis using the I can say no it won’t and can’t work.even if it’s a proprietary IDs 7 upwards.

We actually set up a special drag strip with Slot.it car and specially made MDF drag strip with 25V to test speed.
Have you tested to this extent Mr Flippant?
We have. Sorry if the truth doesn’t suit the agenda but they are the facts.
