Cars bought by members in 2022
#21

Out of that huge list you only bought one car? Amazing self control.

Nice looking car.  Thumbup

I don’t post here often, but I’m trying to add this forum to my routine. I had a busy 2021 after re-kindling my slot car hobby in 2020 when I purchased some Scalextric track and got set up on a 4x8 table. As such, I was supposed to be taking a break. Oops. I found these grid mates for good prices and could not pass them up - I have a soft spot for “Revellograms” - in this case a Lotus Cortina and an NSU TT.

Another one of those where it's difficult to know where to post it.

This car came to me as a bit of a project.

An ex-racer, with McLaren wheels and oversized rear tyres, a vac-formed driver platform and engine, hotter motor and a straight through back axle (no diff.) Crucially however, the rear spoiler was intact, as was the roll bar and one mirror, although the front spoiler had suffered race damage and been repainted.

The plan was to combine it with a speculative 'donor' purchase, made almost two years ago, of a more common - and totally standard - silver 'Test' version, with body damage and a wrecked spoiler.

The yellow body was carefully stripped of its 'racer' parts - the vac-formed interior and engine 'detail'. All traces of adhesive were then removed from the inside before the silver car donated the fully detailed cockpit, driver, engine, standard chassis platform and all the running gear, including the correct wheels, tyres and diff'.

Finally the silver front splitter/spoiler was swapped in from the donor, to replace the race-weary item on the yellow car.

Originally I thought of this as the yellow car being restored with a re-chassis but now I'm not so sure. Has the silver car been re-bodied?

Anyway, a very satisfying project that's given me a lovely #5 Shadow and a pile of donor parts, some of which have already been pressed into use elsewhere. More of that in another post.

This one came from the same racing stable as the yellow #5 - but wasn't as radical.

The entire rear end had been fitted with Slot.it running gear - axle, crown gear and much smaller diameter wheels and tyres. Bizarrely there was also a factory assembly error. The fender strake on the drivers right was fitted back to front so didn't follow the contour of the wing. Definitely factory - but an easy fix.

The rear end was put back to stock MG Vanquish by raiding the parts box for proper McLaren wheels (from the yellow Shadow's racing chassis) and diff' and a second roll bar support was added. (One was missing.)

Other than that it's been disassembled, cleaned, lubed and re-assembled, with the front wheels being spaced out as far as they'd go too. (Forgot to say I did the same on the yellow Shadow.) Love these Vanquish Can Am cars - but not the prices. This was another affordable addition to the collection  Thumbup

I tried to enjoy racing the Avant Slot Audi R8 in the local 'Modern Le Mans' class, but is hard work, and I'm not a patient man! Hopefully I will have more luck with this bad boy from my old mate Darren at TopSlotsnTrains...

First thing first though...on with the black wheel inserts!

The chassis/pod arrangement is more familiar than that on the AS. Hopefully it'll behave in a more familiar fashion to my tuning efforts. But it's low, long and wide, so not a bad starting point.

Three different eras, three different race classes but one common theme - ORANGE!

I've been Tangoed!

The MRRC Cooper Monaco was a must as it struck a chord, reminding me of late '60's club racing with the ubiquitous Revell and Monogram RTR  and kit cars. No idea how it'll run at the club but I've got to give it a go. Cool

The wheelbase needed adjusting to centre the front wheels in the arches and the rear of the body has been raised a little to stop the back tyres rubbing the inside of the bodywork. Other than that it's as bought, used and lightly raced.

The Sideways BMW just looked awesome in the iconic Jagermeister livery and will surely make a great racer. The rear wing is unused in the box.

Dwarfing the Cooper - and the BMW's rear wing (when fitted) - is the Carrera 'K&K Insurance' Dodge Charger Daytona. Another iconic livery. Probably not a great racer but it is a great looker.

The last two are 'new' second-owner cars and at the moment remain untouched.

N+1

Once I had seen this livery, I had to have one of these cars. Couldn't resist this BNIB example that popped up in my 'Watched' list.

No obvious race series to run it in, so I will just have to admire it's tasteful decor for the time being...

I have this scenario in my head.

Paul Ricard Circuit Manager "Jackie, Francois, thanks for coming to this "meet and greet" event today, but we have a problem. BARacer has been a last minute pick for Le Mans, so we are short of an entry in the premier race. What car did you come down in?"
Jackie "Just my Capri."
PRCM "Perfect. Here's a bag of old logos I've had lying around for a while. Just stick them on the car anywhere and you will be good to go!"

Been seeking one of these at a reasonable price for a while:

Ninco DTM Mercedes Safety Car. Used version from eBay but near enough mint. I am going to disconnect the motor but leave the flashing lights functioning and use it in the pit lane on my layout.
