3dp Control tower
#21

Again huge thanks to John and Kevan for enabling this project for me.

Yesterday I drew a breath and started the print run for the main body. Cura reckoned 6.5 hours for the job but I always run the feed-rate below 100%, starting the first layers at 74%. About half-way through, I realised I had left the setting at 74% so increased it to 90.  Some may say I am being over-cautious about this but I appreciate a bit of comfort-factor.
Anyway, 8 hours later there was silence and the rather fruit-bowl looking element was complete - just in time to show it off on the WW Slot Car Chat. I gave credit to John and pointed peeps to here.

Have found a nice spot on the layout where it can provide a backdrop for photo-shoots.
Am planning to add a little digital clock/temp/voltage display so as to complete the look (also tinted glazing!).

Really pleased with this!

Leo

So the tower has arrived at its intended place. Thank you again John and Kevan for the work you have done.

Greg made a Mr Happy Esso Oil file...my immediate thought returned to this control tower so I used the same .svg image Greg used to create a different version that will fit in the slot on top of the tower.

I've also attached the .stl

Good one Kevan and Greg.  That is sure to be popular for race circuit scenarios.

I have had a couple of design "successes" but with simple shapes, I'm nowhere near producing anything with curves or multi-shaped.

This is a simple job to do with a svg file, you import the svg file into a 3D cad program (I use fusion 360) then its a case of extruding the faces to your desired thickness.

I've 'reversed' the file so the outer edge is a 'base' for Mr Happy to sit on so should be easier for FDM printers to manage.

There's two sizes both 3mm thick, one is 30mm'ish high, the other is 60mm'ish high

It's HERE on thingiverse and a remix of Gregs original  Yes

There's now a mirror image 60mm'ish version (ESSO isn't mirrored) and a new base to take these back-to-back
