2020 got off to a cracking start at the B St E Club, with 'The Club Car Clash' doubling the number of drivers on the grid to fourteen, with seven of them being new!

Class 1 - 'The Klub Kart Klash' was a good choice to ease the newbies into the swing of things, the Karts being very stable, evenly matched and most of all - fun to drive!

   

Five of the six on the rostrum were new. Guess which?

The only experienced driver David, looking to his left, leads by a good half a lap as his Kart enters the straight from the right.

   

Hot pursuit.

   

Fourteen racers. Count them - but don't forget the one taking the photo too! (Black racing garb seemed to be the order of the day.)

   

Was this what drew them all in? A promise of cake to celebrate Mark's 50th? Let's hope they come back for more - racing that is - at the next meeting 

   

Class 2 - the Gp5 grid ready for ....

   

..... the off. 

Novices and Masters are very evenly matched as they leave the start.

   

It's not long before the grid spreads out though.

   

There were some close finishes in the heats ...... 

   

.... and overall. 

   

Class 3 - Trucks. A good spread of karts, Gp5's and finally trucks gave the new arrivals a broader appreciation of the styles of racing and driving and hopefully will draw then back for more.

   

Two Southpaws get to grips with the controllers, trucks and track. All six are a study in concentration. 

   

Is that a sneaky substitution? Santa's sleigh truck?

   

Plenty of action as they lean on each other in the turns, just like the real thing. 

   

And the scores - on the, err - doors?  Looks like the established names are going to have to look to their laurels.   

   

Feedback was great, so let's hope one or two they are all hooked.

Classes for the second meeting of the year, January 25th were:

1) Owner/driver - NASCAR/American Muscle cars
2) Club provided - Motorbike & Sidecar combinations
3) Owner/driver - Saloons

However, a big black cloud hung over Chesterfield, 160 miles north-west, where one competitor had spent the previous week putting together what he hoped would be a competitive NASCAR and upgrading his favourite Classic Mini ready for the fray, only to be laid low by a bug going round the locality, which her indoors decided would be unsociable to pass on   .

So, here are the two that didn't make it:

   

Nice of the guys to give him a wave though  (emailed on the night!)   

   

NASCAR and American Muscle hit the track ....

   

... and are away in a blur.

   

The first class-winner of the night is - Vic, with the two Marks and David close behind.

   

Lined up ready for the Club class - the sidecar combos.

   

... and somebody's come into the first turn too hot with the yellow combo. Looks like he's going to cause havoc on the outer lanes as the others barrel into the turn beside him.  

   

Don't they look GREAT!

   

Class-winner here was Mark R.

   

And for the Grand Finale - owner/driver Saloons. Just need someone on Race Control and they'll be off.

Rnd 3 - Saturday 22nd February. 

Classes:

1) Club cars           - 1970/80s Porsche's

   

A smart looking 'Old School' Porsche grid.

   

Newcomer Jaeson looks determined to take the challenge to 'old hand' David.

   

And out of the melee .....

   

.... Mark wins the first class of the night.

2) Owner/drivers  - Porsches (any era, any format) - up to 20000rpm motors. 

   

Lane 5 and the silver Porsche anticipates the start.

   

Confusion reigns! The red Porsche, having crossed from the gutter lane on the far right, leaves the yellow car nowhere to go!

   

It's a bit of a blur but there is one car per lane in this heat!

   

A close finish as the power goes off.

   

Vic wins by a healthy margin, despite running a 'Del Boy' three wheeled Porsche at one stage during the heats!

3) Club cars           - Nissans 

   

Awesome looking Nissan grid.

   

A really busy heat with 12 cars on the track! (Actually two photos merged to show the impact of that tight hairpin on the race order!)

The tail-ender in lane three spins out as the field thunders towards it. Blissfully unaware, the driver in Lane 2 chases down his quarry in Lane 6, only to come to a crashing halt.

   

NOW, he's noticed!

   

Mark takes win number two - but only just! - by 1/10th of a lap from Shaun.

Following the lead of that august institution the FIA, the Bury St Edmunds SCC have called off this weekends GT Meeting in the interests of spectator, driver and team health and safety.
