News Bury St Edmunds Slot Car Club

2026 Season - Rnd 05 - Sat May 2nd

(Apologies but due to technical issues this is a very abbreviated report.)

Another holiday weekend meeting saw attendance hit yet again, with only 7 racers turning up.

Support race: Policar Rally club cars.

3 min heats had much side by side racing action with some steady driving bringing local boy Mark J home in 1st place.

Mains: own/driver Rally cars.

Many different makes and models on display with MSC cars being popular and a few 3D chassis cars being fast.

Grahams modified Ford Escort Cosworth was quick and might have won, if it did not keep going on 2 wheels around the corners.

Fast and furious racing in all of the heats with Vic and his Blue wheeled Subaru coming home the winner.

A very full, varied and colourful field in the owner/driver Rally Class.

Oops! What's that got to do with slot cars, B St E slot car club and Vic King?

Well? This!

It was created to tie in with the recent American space mission and announce the next (May) slot car meeting at B St E. Unfortunately, in changing email providers I lost some email attachments, including this one.

Great and imaginative work from Vic - as usual!

2026 Season - Rnd 06 - Sat June 6th

Once again, the report is running a bit close to the wire after the carrier pigeon succumbed to the heat. Fortunately the racing pigeon got through just in time, as your reporter has a planned absence coming up shortly!

Anyway, enough of the excuses.

It was  good to have eleven racers turn up, including new guest Tim. As (fairly) usual the long circuit was set up and practise began in earnest, with many drivers needing to return to their pit boxes to make adjustments, change tyres or even  rebuild the odd motor to get the best from their own Sports GT cars.

Support Race: 'Club' Ninco McLaren GT's.

To ease everyone into the meeting the first round was for provided 'club' cars. With the usual Vic' set-up to get them evenly matched, heats were close. The driver who made the least mistakes and came home in 1st place was Mark J, followed closely by Shaun and David.

Tim did well for his first time on a big track, coming home ninth with a strange car and controller, so it was a shame he had to leave before the 'Big Event'. Hopefully we'll be seeing him again next time.

Mains:  Owner/driver Open Sports and GT cars.

The norm for the owner/driver class is for a varied grid, with many different makes and models of cars. This was no exception but this time the track seemed to favour the Thunderslot cars.

The race was hotly contested with a number of crashes but Vic', driving steadily, reading the road and keeping out of trouble came home the winner with his red Thunderslot McLaren.

In fact it was a completely different podium in this class, with Vic' on the top step, Mark W second and Larry an excellent third. He's very quickly got on the pace since joining earlier in the year. Ben, however, was the most consistent coming fourth in both classes.
