Controller and Ohm's
#11

I coughed up for a Truspeed BPII and have not regretted it. It's a lovely thing. Ironically,  it has failed to fully tame the one motor in my collection which prompted its purchase,  and which I'm now concluding is faulty,  but it's great for everything else.

No one has yet mentioned the excellent Professor Motor range of electronic controllers.
The 2010 model was my first foray into electronic controllers....adjustable sensitivity and adjustable braking....it tamed the wild ff motors  Scalextric were using and I even ran some 16D vintage motors with it.

At the time of purchase the Slotit item was just released...The PM controller was a similar price but operated much more effectively. ie the Slotit had more knobs and settings but the effective range seemed very limited.

my PM controller is about fifteen years old now and is the default controller on my track. I keep my race controllers (Carsteen) secreted away out of sight.

I would go against the majority here and say DONT get a Truspeed, I've got one and never use it now, it has a habit of cutting out when used  on some of my quicker cars, just a quick power loss but enough to disrupt your rhythm, I've gone back to old faithful, an ECE Rocket converted (by me) to electronic back in the 90's.
I now use it (the ECE) for hard body racing at my local club but it has in the past won Open Sports at the BSCRA Nationals for me, a real one controller for all uses.

This is a known issue with a few earlier models and doesn't affect the latest ones. It is easily fixed with the connection of an extra wire. Talk to Steve for instructions if you are competent at soldering or send it to him for modification. He sorted mine in a couple of days.

I would support the Truspeed as an excellent controller. When I had one there were no problems at all and, if there had been, I am quite confident that Steve would have fixed them. He adapted mine to the way I like the brakes. Sadly, in the end, I sold it as it was a trigger controller and I'm quicker with the thumb!!

My favourite is still the old MRRC 5ohm but I wouldn't recommend using that with modern motors Bigsmile For me, 25ohms is about right for the likes of SlotiT or my favourite NSR King 50s. For serious racing I use an SCD as the MRRC gets a bit hot when used for any length of time.
