The 'Grage
#11

Mega Z +

At some point I tire of the body work and start laying a little color. I had a cranberry maroon metallic scheme cooking, but realized that I've accumulated a few red cars. I've got a jar of some beautiful vintage Testors blue metallic lacquer that I've been conserving. I'd hate for it to petrify in the jar, though.

The lower passes on the bottom are straight metallic blue. The upper was shot in Alclad chrome, then the blue was dusted over the top for light to dark fade from top to bottom. Then I sealed it off in clear. A light pass to blend the transition will follow.

Scrounging up the bit's for an interior tray. It looks like theres enough depth available to squeeze in a shrunken head.

Looking better all the time, Bill.  Thumbup

Where was the FN30 motor sourced from please?

I like the dimensions of the new AFX Mega G+ chassis with the FN20 motor. And just the motor itself too.

Thank you Ken. I think there is probably a slot car hiding in there somewhere.

The FN 30 was sourced through the Slot Lodge by Dennis. So it's a the old " a guys that knows a guy" routine. I'll inquire when the Poobah and I chat again. At the time he sampling many minicans via the Chinese market. I was cracking them like walnuts, to ascertain what was what; as the innards are not always made known.

Currently Ed Bianchi "H0Racepro" made mention of selling surplus FN 20's on SFI, in the thread titled "Weight" on their H0 sub-forum. Im not certain about legality issues, as they may be a neo version.

The N 30 featured above is also a neo version, with a 2 ohm rating. I havent tested on 12 volts yet. A handful at 18 volts, though; and ballistic at 24 volts with questionable longevity. As the voltage goes up, I ensure that they are loaded.

The disclaimer on the N-30 adaptation for the Mega G+ is that it looks like it drops right in, but such is not the case. The conversion requires chassis trimming in the critical shoe hanger area, where the current is shunted to and through the mind control board. The trimming leaves little support, hence the nylatron  re-enforcement welded in after the fact.

The truth is that it looked close, snapped halfway in, then it was a no go; so I beat it in with a hammer anyway. Wrench

Whether or not the "N-20" would be an upgrade for the MG+ has yet to be proven. We know that the factory 17 ohm wind, albeit a tad lackluster for the hard core types, is a really a great road going arrangement. I suspect that a lower rated substitute, might upset that character on the road, but excel on the strip. A hotter load doesnt always translate the tractability quotient positively. Sometimes it adds too much squirrel, motor rating trade offs being what they are.

I havent had the luxury of dissecting a MicroScaley minican. Their innards, their rating in particular, remain a mystery to me. I'm following along closely!

It occurs to me that only this laptop is recognized by SRF

Up Date: Red Delicious.

I try to remember to take a "before pic" as I gather bits.

I finally finished my pickup project.

The flame base is Tamiya yellow lacquer, Ferrari red top coat, and enough clear to bury my mistakes.

I spent extra time working to keep the intricate drip edge and molding detail the original Aurora stylists put in their Model A series.

Rims are Vincent chrome Fuchs with Heister skins.

The glass is whittled and polished from an AFX Woody.

Macro can be very deceptive.

It's snug up front, but still uses a drop plate; albeit "zero clearance".  Travels is just a few thousandths. Spools right up with a Tyco box motor modified with 440 parts. Handles like a dream. The .032" brass pan sits well below the axle line.

Thanks for having a look guys!

Nico. Cool looking car. Beautiful colour.  Thumbup

Bill. It's great to see your "Grage" is open for business again. The Red Delicious has been super slammed, and the body mods looks amazing! The colour, flames, and speckles are beautiful!  Checkeredflag

You'll get a good penny for that "size-O-meter" one day. It's a great gauge on how tall the car is.  Bigsmile

The world just lost one of the best HO scratch builders I've ever run into. Bill Hall (Model Murdering) just passed away this past weekend after a massive stroke.

A stark reminder than everything in life is time sensitive.

Don't put off buying or assembling that slot car on your bucket list. If your wife questions you? Tell her you're doing it in memory of a friend.
