Kudos to Vic.

It's all down to his clever staging of the cars on his diorama setting placed outdoors and his use of the camera that brings the real scenery into play as the background.

The March 4th meeting was a bit hectic with five potential new members being supported with hints, tips and advice throughout the evening. There were also some power issues on the new section of the hairpin track on lane six, hence the lack of photos this time. (Some PSR Track Tabs have been ordered ready for the next meeting, in the hope they'll help with track continuity.)

Although one of the newbies had to leave after the practice session, in deference to the rest both club classes were run first, to ensure matched cars and a level playing field for all.

Not surprisingly, in the Historic Racing Class, (cars kindly provided by Shaun), the first four places were taken by long standing club members, with Vic (driving the Porsche) taking the win from David, Shaun and Bill. Alan led home the newer group, followed by Brian, Aaron and Wayne.

Next up were the Club Motorbikes and Sidecars, Shaun sitting this one out to run the races. Although the locals still took the top three places, this time with David on the top step ahead of Vic and Bill, racing was much tighter, with Brian and Alan snapping at their heels in fourth and fifth. There was then a bit of a gap to Wayne and Aaron, who were enjoying a close fight for sixth and seventh, Wayne just holding on to  his lead as the clock counted down .....

... and that was it.

For once, the clock called time before the F1 owner/drivers class could be run.

Maybe a class for a future meeting?

Saturday 2nd April. race night

Things are looking up with nine attendees, three being newbies and one a recent joiner bedding in nicely, eh Alan.  Thumbup

Racing opened with the Club Slot.it Nissans

Nice to drive, the results reflected the membership profile exactly, with the four long established members closely matched at the top end, Mark taking the win from David, Vic and Bill. Alan slotted in with a score mid-way between the lead group and the three new joiners, eleven laps behind Bill but fourteen ahead of Wayne, Brian and Aaron.

Next up were the Club Classic Minis, which looked great. A full grid of six were available.

However, with Aaron opting to run race control for the rest of the night and the need for marshals only four were used on the middle four lanes.

Mark took the top step of the podium again. Vic and David swapped places, Bill making fourth his own, while Alan, Wayne and Brian followed in the same order - but much closer together, with the Scalextric Minis being more familiar territory for the trio.

Finally the wild card, no holds barred Owner/Driver Saloons - any make with the only restriction being an inline motor with a  max. of 20k rpm..

The grid was varied with Scalextric, Slot.it, maybe Carrera? and a home built Anglia taking to the track.

The other Mark, not seen for a long time due to shift working, arrived in time to bump the grid up to eight, with the ninth attendee, Aaron, happy to continue on race control.

Vic finally prevailed here, taking top step of the podium as David made it to second spot again. Mark R inserted himself into the finishing order, demoting Mark J to fourth and Bill to fifth. Newbie Brian picked up the pace to finish ahead of Alan this time, with Wayne providing strong support to the rest of the field in the runner up spot.

Hope to see them all back for the next meeting, which is on:

Saturday May 13th race night:

Although Mark Jay was ill we were still able to rustle up eight racers, Max returning with renewed enthusiasm to show and run some of his new cars bought in Spain.

The first class was for standard 'Vic blueprinted' Club Rally Peugeots. All races are run at around 11-12 volts, ensuring plenty of close racing with maximum fun and minimum damage. Bill won by just a tenth of a lap from David and seven tenths from Vic, with the rest of the field closely bunched.

Not sure whether Aaron had been running the first race but he certainly took to the track for the next club class, forty year old 'mini-lorries'. Racing was even closer here with the win being taken by David. Again the winning margin was just a tenth of a lap, with Shaun and Vic tying for third. Despite 30gms of weight augmenting the weak old traction magnet some were still finding it difficult to keep the shiny side up!

The Feature race and what they'd all been looking forward to, was for 'Open' Owner/Driver Rally cars.  A huge and varied field was entered, Audi's being most popular with three being entered, joined by two Metro 6R4's, two Citroens an old school Mk1 Escort and the usual Subaru, Focus, RS200, Porsche, etc! The win went to Vic with an Audi, followed by David's faithful '33 Export' 6R4. Shaun took third spot, I think with the other 6R4.

Next race night: Saturday June 3rd 5.00pm onward.

Main race: Sports and GT cars with any chassis or motor RPM. Maybe of two rounds, clockwise ...

... and anti-clockwise?

Support race: Club Porsches.

N.B. ALL races are run at around 11v-12v.

Shocked

A VERY brief report on the June 3rd race night:

First up was a 'Club car' support race with 1980s Porsche 911's.

There was some close racing with Shaun taking the top step of the podium.

The 'Main feature' was for owner/driver Open Sports and GT cars at 11 volts.

Racing was "fast and furious", with Vic coming home in 1st place.

Even with four rather then the usual three minute heats the evening moved along well, meaning there was time for an extra class using the Club Sideways Grp 5 cars running anti-clockwise. Chaos reigned until people adjusted to the different braking points, with the bridge barrier taking a lot of punishment, particularly from Bill's cars.

Mark Jay got the hang of it first, leading home the rest of the field in a closely fought battle.
