DS timing systems are fine Gordon but they are very expensive. If you can overcome your dislike of Microsoft then you can rig up a simple system very cheaply. Have a read about Race Control in the SlotRacer manual.

Thanks Brian. I'll have a look but I have the sort of brain that goes into lockdown as soon as it sees the words 'electronic' or 'simple'. The first I know means that I won't understand it and the second word I don't believe.

If I stick to hewing wood, I know I'm on safe ground. I can handle the practical bits like drilling holes and some wiring but what I need is someone who just says "oh, give it here" like Ronnie does when I take more than three seconds to get round to something.

I do have a Mac Mini somewhere in the house that runs XP so the software should be OK although I haven't used it apart from the initial look to see what it was like and then hastily abandoned in despair
