Scalextric - Cooper Climax T53: modified C7005
This car has been sitting in my to-do box for ages. I had made a start on it following the instructions found way back in this thread though. Sadly, the photos have long gone to digital heaven. After a good old hack about with some sharp implements I postponed working on it as I never really thought that it would work ........![[Image: sad.png]](https://www.slotforum.com/forums//public/style_emoticons/default/sad.png)
Fast forward a few years and here we have the mutilated chassis which has been resurrected and chipping has now finished .....![[Image: smile.png]](https://www.slotforum.com/forums//public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png)
The extent of the earlier hacking on the chassis side can now been seen. It was
completely unnecessary as it turned out; thankfully it is hidden by the body shell.
The floor of the chassis needed a lot of leveling out. There was quite a lump of
plastic around the LED mount that needed to go as did the driver's legs and gear
shift and the other nice bits that Scalextric used to lovingly lavish upon us ...
This shows the reinforcement of the LED hole in the earliest cars to allow for
digitising, hence the floor hacking ...
The front wheels are now replaced after a bit of a thinning down to allow for the
C7005 chip to sit in between the rather over-engineered fittings.
Everything now in place and after a quick track test to make sure that the car ran
forwards and the lane-changing worked, everything was put in place to accept
the body shell ...
Other modifications made included removing the magnet, a 13k RPM motor,
industrial strength MOSFETs and super efficient diodes to provide a bit more voltage
to the motor to compensate for not using the original turbo nutter-barstud FFS
motor. The sharp eyed amongst you might have noticed the big silver capacitor
has been replace by a smaller tantalum one ....... it was the key that made the
whole job possible ....![[Image: wink.png]](https://www.slotforum.com/forums//public/style_emoticons/default/wink.png)
After all of these years, the job is finally finished and it ended up as a very satisfying feeling. Oh, and the car runs really sweetly .....![[Image: banana.gif]](https://www.slotforum.com/forums//public/style_emoticons/default/banana.gif)
