It was a very busy day at Gaugemaster today and lots of slot car fun. Numbers were significantly up on previous years according to the shop staff. Our WHO Racing layout was in action non-stop from 10am to 2pm and then the final hour was a little more leisurely. Here's how it looked at the start and the WHO set-up team relaxing before the crowds were let in...
There were more tracks than usual this year, including Gaugemaster's lovely little Brands Hatch track opposite ours and two layouts in the packing room - one Scalextric ARC One and the other built from the rather nice new Policar track system...
Outside, a big four-lane Ninco track was built in the Gaugemaster gazebo...
However, the only racing with prizes was our Scalextric ARC Air Mini Challenge competition - 21 laps with a tyre stop around half distance and the winner's time added to the results wall. The ARC app and the Mini Cooper S cars ran like clockwork, as they always do...
Oli and Oliver set the quickest winning times of the first hour - Oli taking home a copy of Slot Car Magazine and Oliver choosing a 2019 Scalextric catalogue...
Oliver was also now in pole position for the big prize of the day - the best junior driver would win a Scalextric BTCC set donated by Hornby Hobbies. There was fierce competition for the set and also for the bragging rights for the quickest race time of the day. Mike D set an almost perfect time of 1m 5.930s just before midday. The closest anyone came to that was Luke with 1m 7.99s, enough to finish top junior and take home the BTCC set, presented here by Matt Taylor from Gaugemaster...
There was just enough time in the last hour to have a good look round, bag a bargain or two and closely examine some pre-production samples of most of the Winter 2019-20 Scalextric releases...
I will post more about that (and my purchases) elsewhere on the forum
All-in-all an excellent day. Thanks to Gaugemaster for putting it on and to Hornby Hobbies for their support. I can't wait until next year.
