Replying to Chappyman’s comment above, the intended use of the Dyno is to support my club racing where most classes only allow one type of motor i.e. Slot It group C/Classic and the V12 21.5-23K rpm S can, Racer Sideways Group 5 and the Yellow Flat 6 and so on. My need is comparative testing of groups of the same class of motor to find the best one or two to go into the cars that will be raced. Secondly I can use the Dyno to monitor motors currently fitted in cars to see if performance is waning and needs replacing.
Testing one off motors say NSR Shark versus Slot It V12 is subjective to motor constructional tolerances, magnet strength, and brush wear/run in, and unless you have a large sample of each not conclusive so wary of constructing brand league tables.
Below is the recent testing for 19 off Slot It V12 motors for the Slot It classes where any V12 motor 21.5-23K is allowed.
Notes:
1. Each motor is numbered and includes the early orange then red and latest white endbells
2. The test motor rpm is calculated from the 11:37 gear ratio to flywheel shaft & sensor.
3. Bottom 3 motors only tested for Flywheel due to low performance.
4. All motors have seen some use in a car, were oiled before testing and unmodified.
5. Flywheel rating is brake off but turning the flywheel & parasitic motor which still incurs a load.
From the results can see that Orange motor 24 is fastest at the flywheel, but motors No. 5, 2 & 17 can sustain the load better.
Cheers
John
