Race reports - 16th November - Small Sports/Saloons followed by Group 5

It was good to see Geoff back for the first time in a few weeks, his BMW Gr5 was always quick…would the rest have done it good?

Small Sports/Saloons

   

Two Modified Class cars, Kev’s Chaparral and Mike B’s Moggy Racer.

Three Open Class cars, Andy’s Mercedes 300SLR, Brian’s Ferrari 365P2, Geoff’s Jag XK120 and Ed’s Metro 6R4

No really close races tonight, the closest race was Heat #5 as Andy’s Merc and Kev’s Chaparral finished 5 seconds apart.

For years we’ve only seen a couple of cars in this class go faster than 7 seconds round the track, these days it’s a regular occurrence, tonight there were four cars, Andy’s Merc and Kev’s Chaparral joined by Geoff’s Jag XK120 and Brian’s Ferrari 365P2.

It’s always a pleasure to watch Mike B’s Moggy Racer in action, it’s a great looking car!

Ed’s Metro 6R4 may well be retiring from this class as a nice green Jaguar XK120 was seen in the pits and a set of glued & trued tyres on wire wheels will be on their way back to Ed on Thurs night.

Heat wins in heat order for Andy, Brian & Kev

   



Group 5

   

Drivers were swapped around for Group 5 racing, Geoff, Andy & Mike B raced together whilst Brian, Kev & Ed raced together.

Andy raced a Standard Ford Capri…or is that Modified Class…and was pushed during all three races by Geoff’s best in Standard Class BMW 320i.  Mike’s Capri was just on the coat tails of these two for the first two races but lost out a little when racing in Red lane during their final race.

Brian just couldn’t race his Capri so opted for his new Standard Class BMW 320i and gave Kev’s off the pace BMW M1 three good runs for his money.
Ed’s Porsche was closest in Heat #6 in Yellow lane but couldn’t keep up with the two Beemers.

Another new appearance from Ed was his Mac Pinches Truspeed thumbie controller, initially feeling intermittent and so not used during racing was found to have a pcb worn through by the wiper contact…a tweak with a pair of needle nose pliers by Kev and Ed was happily driving round for at least 50 laps after racing was over and didn’t deslot once.
