Lots of discussion on crowns, nsr crowns and sizing (slot.it vs nsr axles)
Many wrong assumptions are being made, primarily because the 8689 is hard to buy in the UK
However, 2 racing buddies , known for their "need of the new" , have these cars on import.
Up close, the transmission is perplexing.
The motor mount is not identical to the 8689 which is quite a surprise.
The motor position is further forward in the car
Why?
Can't be to mimic the hourglass rear end of the hybrid f1 cars.
Nsr f22 is still fat and ugly at the rear.
So, the motor has been moved forward to maintain the front to rear balance of the 8689.
I suspect that this will make the car tail end happy, especially with the larger diameter rear wheels.
The NSR promo vid seems to confirm this.
How have nsr achieved this motor position?
A custom pinion 09 10 and 11 are available.
(Pic from evotecshop.com)
The pinion is longer and appears to have a motor spindle extender integral to the design.
The motor spindle extender is made of brass and appears to be machined as a part of the pinion.
So, a brass spindle extender into a notoriously fragile crown boss?
Intuitively, I suspect that these spindle extenders will wear and fail.
Additionally, a regular pinion puller will not work on this transmission.
There is no access to the end of the motor spindle for a regular puller to push against so a regular pinion puller just won't work.
To tackle this, nsr have created a custom pinion puller for the nsr f22
A special puller just for one car?
The nsr f22 puller appears to be designed to pull the pinion by pressing against the end of of the motor can.
Unless I've misunderstood this, the operation of this puller will
- Press hard on the internal armature spacer
- risk damaging the spacer and end bearing.
- risk pulling the motor spindle out of the armature stack.
In summary, the nsr f22 transmission is new and an unknown quantity and requires special tools.
If anyone has real life test experience of the f22, please post in this thread.
