Race reports - 15th September - GP/Prewing F1 + Classic F1/F1
 
Two new visitors to the club last night, Edward who raced Slot cars many years ago and Alan who was introduced to the club members present by Gavin.
 
GP/Prewing F1

   
 
Although the class wins weren’t close some heats certainly saw close racing.
 
Heat #1 with Brian’s Vanwall (Modified GP) finished just over a lap ahead of Chris’s Maserati 250F (Open GP).
 
Heat #2 was Gavin’s best heat, the Lancia D50 (Open GP) only two seconds behind Chris’s Maserati.
 
Heat #3 was super close, Brian & Chris swapping the lead…in the end Brian’s Vanwall just finished ahead of Chris’s Maserati by less than two seconds.
 
Heat #6 Kev’s Mercedes W165 (Modified GP) finished just over a lap ahead of Mike’s Ferrari 156 (Open Pre-wing).  Heat #7 was Kev’s best run with the Merc.
 
Heat #4 was Mike’s best run with the Ferrari which was also the best heat for Andy’s Ferrari with Kev’s Merc W165 the closest Andy saw in all three heats.  An unruffled night’s racing for Andy’s Ferrari 156.

Classic F1/F1

   
 
Standard class was busy tonight, starting with five NSR’s.  With the heats the same for this class as the earlier GP/Pre-wing racing Chris & Brian were again swapping race leads in Heat #1 & #3, Brian finished ahead in both but not by much.  Heat #3 was the closest, a couple of deslots late in the race from Chris meant Brian could breathe a sigh of relief crossing the finish line in front.
 
Andy was the runaway winner in Heat #2 whilst in Blue, this was to be Andy’s last heat finish as a race incident in Heat #4 meant a DNF.
 
Kev’s best run was a 29 lapper in Blue with Gavin having his best heat whilst in Red.
 
Gavin managed a couple of runners-up spots in Heats #6 & #7
 
Mike was the sole Open class runner, the Merced’ish being consistent but not able to keep up with the NSR’s.  Yellow lane in Heat #3 was the best run for the Merc.
 
It’s great to see some club members racing fully liveried NSR F1’s, it transforms a bland single coloured car.

   
 
One of our visitors, Alan joined in the racing, these are not the best classes for a first nights racing, fast, wide and prone to deslot.  Racing the sole Standard class Classic F1, the Policar Ferrari nearly managed 22 laps in Yellow during Heat #7.  Chris let him borrow a BRM BT24 for the GP/Pre-wing racing although not a Pre-wing era car he managed 18 laps in Heat #5 in Blue.

Our other visitor Edward had a drive of a Spirit Peugeot after the racing was finished and seemed to enjoy driving on a big track for the first time in many years.
