I very much doubt there is any electronic  trickery in the box. The under track photo sensors can be joined direct to a parallel connector so it is probably just some sort of junction box.

You can also connect the sensors to a USB but then you would need a different RMS as LapTimer 2000 is so old it won't accept that input method.

I am as electronically challenged as you but wiring up sensors is basically very simple, just joining four wires to the relevant pins, and I am sure there is somebody on here who could help if asked. The light-bridge is a piece of cake, even I managed that on my layout, just a couple of LEDs in a gantry of some sort wired to a 12v supply.
