First - are you sure it's an oXigen chip rather than a Slot.it SSD chip? An oXigen chip will have a Hall sensor running off the board to either the left or right-hand-side of the chassis. The SP15 SSD chip doesn't.
The SP15 - like any standard SSD chip - will work in analogue. Scalextric chips are designed to run in an analogue mode until they detects a digital signal from the track. That's sort of neat, but does cause problems if the digital signal is momentarily lost - the problem being full speed 'runaways'.
An oXigen chip doesn't have a default analogue mode - unless it's the latest Type C chip and is flashed with SSD firmware. Then it behaves just like an SSD chip.
The easiest way is to try the car on an analogue track - I just did with an oXigen chip. All that happened was the red LED on the board came on when I pressed the throttle - it was ready to receive the radio commands from an oXigen controller to make it move.
