I need some barriers! One of the Alfas took a small trip over the edge, bounced once and hopped into a black bucket on the floor. I'll look for some thin ply tomorrow.

That happened to me once too. You know in advance that it's not safe without crash barriers, but the curiosity about how the cars will perform on the new track wins over the mind.

That is a very nice new promising hobby room you have.
It's always good to do a test track first. It makes it a lot easier to create the layout of a larger permanent track.
