At SSRC we have a 4 lane track and for all formats Race Coordinator is set to randomly pick the racers for each heat and every driver races one heat on each of the four lanes.

The options we run or have run are:-

 Distance covered during a set time - Each heat is usually 4 mins and the overall winner is the person who covered the greatest distance in their four heats. The track is marked out in segments to take into account part laps completed.
 If you don't want the hassle of marking out segments and adding up the laps manually I believe Race Coordinator can be set to work out part laps based on your average lap time for the heat. 

 A straight race in each heat with points awarded for placings. Overall winner is the person who has accumulated the highest points total over their four heats during the evening.
We thought this system was a little unfair as we found that some drivers came up against the fastest club racers in more than one heat so had less chance of a heat win than those who didn't get drawn against any of the fastest drivers during the evening.

So we have been trialling

 Each heat is treated as a straight race but we record the time for every racer in each heat and the racer with the lowest total time for their 4 heats is the overall winner so it doesn't matter whether you are in a heat with the fastest or slowest club members as you are effectively racing the clock - Hope that makes sense. 

 Any of the above options can be set up in Race Coordinator. 

 We run two classes every race evening. We don't run a format with semi finals and finals as there isn't enough time.
