Well I did say the Hummer might end up on this thread
The stretched 'station wagon' looks didn't do it for me, so I was hoping the interior would have the crew cab and pickup bed detail hidden under that l-o-n-g roof..... which was gently prised off using a penknife blade....and it was.
At this point I decided to address the loose rear wheel issue. Each is 'officially' a two piece plastic item, the wheel and a very deep push-in insert. However both wheels had broken up, one being in three pieces and the other four. With the inserts removed, easily pushed out from the back using a jewellers screwdriver, the wheels were reassembled using superglue. Once set and trued up the wheel inserts were glued in permanently with solvent cement, to reinforce the assembly. It worked a treat as both are now a VERY tight fit on the rear axle. Only mistake was to re-attach the tyres. I was going to spray the wheels silver. Not sure I dare remove them now. Probably will though.
The Hummer remained this way for several days as I lost my bottle and couldn't bring myself to cut it up - but ....... after stripping off the added detail - lights, bonnet vents, mirrors and personnel .......
.... I passed the point of no return, removing the tailgate/rear doors carefully with a Dremel wheel for possible re-use as the back of the crew cab. Side windows succumbed to a razor saw for potentially the same re-purposing, leaving the roof to be shortened - but that's for another day. I think I'll probably follow Powerslot's route though and install a windowless rear wall cut from plastic sheet, using the windscreen surround as a template to fit the roof contour.
Now - do those wheels come back off again or .... ?
