1st purchase for an 8 (and 48) year old
#1

Hi,

I am looking to get a set for my son for Christmas. I have been poking around with different options but am a little flummoxed. I'd like to wade in with a set that is cool / fully-featured enough to be interesting w/o going 100% in for many $100s. This will be a set that we set up and tear down in the living room, playroom, etc

I narrowed it down to a Scalextric analog set, American Police Chase. It has some features, a couple of cool cars, and is pretty reasonable. The rub is that a lot of reviewers on Amazon and Youtube complain about poor performance / intermittent power delivery, particularly when the controller is stepped down, like one might for a kid. With more digging, this complaint seems to show up pretty regularly with Scalextric.

1) Any experience or opinions on this issue?

2) Any opinions on this set or recommendations for others?

3) Any thoughts on whether to start with analog vs digital, particularly for a new child user?

4) Carrera v Scalextric...let me have it!
