Next questions. Have you tried using any other devices, and if so do you get the same problem? Also, are you aware of any updates that have happened recently?
Whenever it next happens can you please try to gather whatever information you can, perhaps try using the Firefox console, which is under the menu button > Web Developer > Web Console. If you could copy any info there it may help.
The problem I have right now is not just that I'm looking for a needle in a haystack. It's also that I don't even know which haystack it's in, or how to recognise it if I do find it. Without more info, I'm also working in the dark, and that's a risky business while the site is, as far as I know, working reasonably well for everybody else.
Will do. As I said, it works perfectly in Safari so it has to be browser rather than system I assume.

That's a fair assumption, but then it's odd that it would suddenly fail on three different browsers.

It has now stopped getting hung and loads very quickly on Brave. It is still failing draw the top of the page correctly though. I can access the recent posts though the left hand column so it's quite usable now. It just seems very strange that there is no consistency in response.
This is Brave and
This is Safari

Yes, the inconsistency is absolutely bizarre.
As you no doubt know, what you get with Safari is how it's supposed to be. What you're seeing with Brave is actually the mobile phone arrangement of the screen, which shouldn't show at that sort of screen size.
I wonder if there is somehow a persistent cache of a temporary glitch? It's probably unlikely but since it's really simple it might be worth following these
instructions to bypass your cache

In fact, I now keep three browsers open
Safari for here
Brave for almost everywhere else
Firefox for Farcebook as it has containers that hopefully rein in their predation a little!

The other day, I went onto this site on my phone and just for a second...I saw pictures of different cars on a white background in the header.
Is there a 'dark web' version of the site hidden behind the public version?
Let's go...OFF ROAD!

No, there's no dark web version of the site.
Occasionally, if your connection is slow, the photos at the top will load before the code to display them as a slider, so you'll see them all at once.
