I want to fit a Slotingplus guide which will need a special insert gluing to the chassis...

   
   

It's not pretty and next time I'll do that in one piece but it works. 

Next job the motor mount is held in with one screw miles off-centre... that's got to be changed too.

A piece of expanded foam plastic glued to the back of the motor mount then a mounting screw drilled in the middle where it should be.

   

Ground clearance is hugely improved...

After gluing and truing the rear tyres, ground clearance wasn't as much as I'd like so fit a pair of offset bearings with the offset in the low position giving me an extra 1mm.

This won't be a great car but it'll be different to the rest of the Group 5's raced and I expect it to be mid-pack 
...but it might surprise me like the MRRC Toyota did.

On the Lotus 18 chassis….
Once the chassis is correctly folded and things seem sorted I like to solder the corners and where the motor upright meets the sides. I also fit and solder a front axle tube as well as solder in the rear bearings. This offers superior rigidity and smoother running.

Munter, great minds think alike.  Thumbup   Here is my take on rear support.

   

A 1/16” U brace soldered in place as are the bearings.

That looks pretty strong Mr Thumbs. 

I am guessing that the chassis design is for the FF050 motor with a long shaft….?

When scratchbuilding I usually shorten the shaft to move the weight of the motor rearward and reduce any flex in the shaft…. not sure if it makes any difference though.
