I quite like the idea of turning it into a Slot car with opening doors and bonnet with engine detail.

Thats a great idea, it's a perfect car to do that to.

It's one for the future, at the moment I'm preoccupied building proxy cars and club member chassis designs.

Chassis for a George Turner Cheetah.

Fellow club member wanted a new chassis for his Cheetah as the chassis supplied in the kit is sidewinder and the club rules for the Goodwood class stipulate inline only.

Adapting a generic chassis design I use in my Goodwood cars to fit the George Turner (GT) car required wheelbase and width changes, moving the body posts around on the chassis to match the shell rear posts pitch, position and height, plus adding 2 front posts to the GT shell as this has a front central post which obstructs the inline boxer motor required.

Chassis has side mounted springs to the pod, no chassis rails at the rear, and a front torsion arm to the pod, movement constrained by grub screws in the spring caps. Rear axle mounted in Slot It spherical bearings, front axle can be height adjusted on grub screws top & bottom each side.

Cheers

The #1 big advantage of inline with narrow cars is the ability to use wider tyres.
The #2 big advantage of inline with narrow cars is the ability to change gear ratios much easier (if you use axle spacers to stop the crown gear moving rather than rely on the groove in the gear).

...looks great that John  Thumbup

Not on my bench, but in my oven...

Trying to flatten part of my Slot.it Oreca white kit in some boiled water so that it better matches the profile of the hole it is going to fill

Meanwhile, on my bench I'm learning how to true Slot.it G25 tyres for the HRW Hypercar Proxy...

Getting there, but the melted rubber goes everywhere!

I've not found an easy way to true G25's and don't like that they ball-up anyway so gave up on them.
...the new NSR Z-grips on the other hand true ok if you keep the speed down to 2.5v and give great grip once they're polished.

3D Nylon spur gear in a confined space so not much boss (1.5mm).

I've cut 3 thin grooves for supergluing onto the axle.

Currently playing with different diameters to get a good gear mesh but it works great.
