I'm as guilty as many others for running an SRC Porsche 914 in the Classic class, as it takes great preparation and driving skill to get any other car up at the top of the ranking. Pleased with the 'non-914' placing for my TR7, but chapeau to Woodcote with his Ninco entry!

Yes, it's always great to see a TR7 in action on the Rally stages

Having witnessed how fast the Puntos went in the Modern class, I think I need to refresh my 208 to try and cure a bit of oversteer currently present.

Better rear tyres helps there
...I had to google NSR Fiat Punto as I wasn't aware they made one...then realised of course it's the S2000

Round Two at Farnborough Park Scalextric Club took place yesterday...
It was another excellent day of slot rally action - with a journalist covering the event for the WRC website!
Eight stages, with some upgrades of the routed / permanent tracks from November and two new sectional layouts gave an exciting variety of challenges...
I've written up a report of our trip on the Worthing HO Racing forum here, with lots more pictures...
I swapped out an SCX Abarth 124 for my SCX Suzuki Swift, but kept my Ninco Porsche, Impreza and Avant Slot Galant. They did well, with a top ten in Classic and top five in Modern...
I'll leave it to Jeremy to say how he did

A fun day, with a wide variety of tracks!
My visit here last year was a red letter day for me. I didn't do as well as I had expected, and talking it through with teammates, the reality dawned on me that you can't just turn up as these events cold, taking the cars out of the pit box where you put them after the last round. So since last time here, I have kept my practice rally track up at home, and have tried to keep my hand in on a weekly basis, getting to grips with car/eye/finger/controller coordination. So in came a simple DS 45ohm controller, and more consideration as to the best running order for my four regular entries.
My Scalextric TR7 with an Amato chassis is my lead out car, easy to drive and a good indicator as to where the challenges are on each circuit. I moved my SRC Delta up the order to follow the TR as it is similar in size but a tad faster. My Scaleauto Peugeot 208 and SRC Porsche 914 than follow, both having a shorter wheelbase and both being what you might call 'more nippy' than my other two cars.
Consistency is what you need to try and achieve with each run of each car. It's difficult to gain much time on each track, but very easy to loose it with an off or two. You just need to stay in the slot! My other problem is a bad run with a car often rattles around in my head when I am running the following cars on the track, so you need to try and forget everything that has gone before and just focus on your car that's running. I think I was better at doing this this time round, but there is always room for improvement!
More rambling thoughts than pictures, I'm afraid, but here's one of the Small Hill Climb track, a favourite of mine with lots of elevation and no real straights to talk of, a great challenge to drive fast but neatly...

Round 3 Nascot Wood Ruminations.
First the results...
Classic
80s/90s
Modern
Overall
The TR7 ran well, probably could gave been driven a bit better/aggressively.
Had an epiphany with the Delta, remembering I had changed the rear tyres for an event I did not get to. Found the original rear wheels with my preferred tyres on, fitted them and immediately found it more comfortable to drive on my home rally track. Did a bit of work around body movement, and changed the rear springs. Now I feel it can be a bit more competative, and a strong car to lead out my other 80s/90s entry.
The 205 was under-prepared for Nascot Wood. I've now fitted longer braids and that has transformed its performance. I have also racked up a load of laps on my home track to get the motor and gears bedded in properly. It now feels much smoother.
The 208 seems to have hit a glass ceiling with 5th place. Just to give myself a phycological boost, I've fitted new braids and tweaked the ballast. It doesn't seem to go any slower, so lets see what it can do on its local tracks at the next round in Worthing.
