Rnd 9 - Saturday 14th September.
A race report with a difference this time.
Ten racers turned up to assemble the track on race night but for some reason they were feeling a bit camera shy, so rather than focusing on the track action, drivers and marshals we've gone for their pit boxes instead.
Typically for the owner/driver challenge there were many different makes and body styles represented, with the RS200's turning out in abundance. Racing was 'fast and furious' during the four minute heats across all six lanes. Vic brought his MSC Subaru home in top spot just a fifth of a lap ahead of Mark J. Shaun took the third step on the podium, with Mark R having to be content with fastest lap this time, dipping into the elevens with an 11.805.

Everyone's in it for fun but you can see from the photo's that some take their fun a LOT more seriously than others! No names, no pack drill, although club members will know whose is whose.
Support race: Club Ninco Peugeot 206's.
As usual these were great fun, with close combat on most corners, Shaun coming home in first place just a tenth of a lap ahead of a hard charging Mark R. Not to be outdone Mark J secured third spot just three tenths of a lap further back. Talking of 'Mark's', although ninth overall Wayne made HIS 'mark' with a class fastest lap of 13.226 seconds, showing he can really get some pace out of these things. With a bit of luck he could have been higher.
Main race: Owner/driver Rally cars. Inline chassis. Max motor rpm of 21k.

The car to have - an RS200 - but not the overall winner, despite the odds.
That went to Vic's rare (?) MSC Subaru - same chassis, better handling.

Sat 12th Oct: Race report
With the number of Camaros in evidence it was no surprise one took top step of the podium, Vic' guiding his blue wheeled Camaro through the carnage to secure the win by a whisker over two laps from Mark W, with Mark J third 2.5 laps off the lead.
Only ten racers this week due to illness, holiday ( what's that ) and a wedding.
Thanks to all in attendance, some much needed track maintenance was done, focusing on the third of the circuit that had been most troublesome. All the sections were lifted, their end connectors cleaned and tightened and two jump-wired pieces reconnected. Not bad for twelve years with Sport track. Power is good all the way round again.
Support race: Sideways Grp 5 club cars
The Grp 5 class saw some close racing between the experienced club members, with the newcomers raising their game to tighten the field, the winner being Mark Raine a couple of laps ahead of Dave and almost three up on Shaun. Less than a lap back in fourth was Vic', fifth to seventh places being covered by just a tenth of a lap
Main race: Owner/Driver Nascars and Muscle cars
Although there were many different slot car manufacturers represented, along with a fair few 1:1 makes the Chevy Camaro proved the most popular body style, with five of the six generations from '66 to date appearing on track at one time or another.
Racing was close, but maybe a bit too enthusiastic at times. Quite a few cars turned turtle, raising the tongue-in-cheek call for drivers to put lane stickers on their chassis to help with marshalling! (A common theme throughout the history of slot racing!)

With no family commitments to speak of attendance was back up to the more usual dozen, making for quickly assembly of the long circuit for the night's racing.
(Making a Special 'Ghost' appearance was an experimental 3D printed 'Christine', complete with a 3D printed chassis.)
Next meeting is on Sat 14th December when the class will be Saloon cars from DTM,BTTC, ETC and WTC etc with inline chassis and maximum rpm of 20K, support tbc.
Support race: Club Scalextric Porsche 911GT3's, all rebuilt with new tyres, braids and added lead. What could possibly go wrong?
Ah, a lot it seems.
Racing was in the reverse direction, which takes time for the regulars to adapt to, never mind the newer members. The two main straights run parallel to one another, which usually means a quick burst of speed from left to right (looking at the track plan, not from the drivers viewpoint) along the shorter straight in front of the drivers and a long blast from right to left down the double-length main straight, the only point where you can 'relax' for a couple of seconds and look for the opposition.
In the opposite direction it takes a lap or two and a few heavy crashes to realise you can't do that on the short straight! There was a bit of a wake-up call as the cars took a heavy pounding against the solid bridge walls, with more chaos and destruction than storm Bert. It's not just once bitten either. In the heat of battle it's too easy to forget the lessons from the early laps and get suckered in to a flat out blast on the wrong straight! The winner was Mark J, who is always quick to master whatever club cars are run, in whichever direction. For full results click on the screen shot.
Main race, Owner/Driver Sports/GT cars with unlimited motor rpm and chassis layout.
Good planning by the organisers, running the Club class first. By the time it got to the owner/driver class the new braking points were well and truly hammered home and some very close racing ensued between the Slot it, NSR and Thunderslot cars, although Ben did suffer some guide issues with his car.
Vic led the field home with his Slot.It McLaren. Despite some niggling slot guide issues Ben took second in a tight grouping, with Graham third and Mark J fourth. The three places were covered by less than a lap. Bill and David, in fifth and sixth respectively, were even more closely matched, barely a fifth of a lap apart.

Race report: Sat 14th December
Eleven members turned out to help set up the long circuit but there was a bit of a logistical issue before racing proper could start. No race management laptop - and no one could remember who took it home after the previous meeting! A few hectic phone calls soon tracked it down and saw it reunited with the track.
Support race: Club Karts
Individual heats were again close, with several seeing two or three drivers finish within the same tenth of a lap. Overall though individual car set-ups, driver experience and confidence in their cars saw a wider spread in the results.
Vic and his Alfa (below right) took 1st place, closely followed by Ben and Graham.
David took fourth about mid-way between the leading three and Mark W, the lead driver of the following six.

A fun class with some very close racing, all the way down to the wire.
It was so close nothing was really resolved until the last heat, the penultimate lap of which saw David's de-slot lose him almost a full lap, dropping him to second overall, half a lap down on Mark J - the overall winner.
It proved decisive for Shaun and Vic too. Another fifth of a lap in this heat would have seen Vic dislodge Shaun from third spot but it wasn't to be, his score falling short as the power went off. It did secure him a good fourth place though, over a lap ahead of Graham in fifth.
Ben and Graham battled for the lead of this last heat too, a brilliant charge from Ben taking the win by half a lap from Graham - but it wasn't quite enough to dislodge him from fifth overall. Despite Ben's valiant effort Graham remained fifth with himself sixth.
Mains: Owner/driver Open Saloon cars
The field was reduced to ten drivers here, with Mark J having to leave early.
With many different body styles and slot car manufacturers represented Slot.it cars seemed to be the class of the field, with some 3D printed chassis also doing well.
