December 17th report:

Good to see the numbers are holding up well. With the new norm of eleven racers the long six lane circuit was quickly assembled, powered up (11volts) and racing started.

The theme of the night seemed to be 'everything different'. Along with Sunday rather than Saturday racing and an hour earlier start and finish time, it seemed fitting to top it off by running the circuit in the opposite direction for a change too.

Support race, Club Grp 5 cars.

Things started off well with close racing in the three minute heats, the final one and the overall class win going to Mark J from Shaun by just a fifth of a lap.

Main race, Owner/driver Saloon cars.

Here the reverse direction belatedly took its toll. Running this way it's easy to be deceived into thinking you're on the main straight and carry too much speed into the shorter bridge approach before realising your mistake. The carnage seemed contagious and nearly everyone had their - or someone else's - moment on the bridge before Vic eventually managed to win through, with Ben in second spot.

Extra support race, Club Nissan sports

(No photos available.)

Rather than running one class in both directions and accumulating the results for a win as has happened over the last few meetings, a third class was run but still in the same 'reverse' direction. With the closely matched Club Nissans it was fast and furious but no less chaotic, the battle eventually spitting out the third winner of the night, Rob, who did well to triumph over all the adversity!

Lots of fun and laughter and a great evening of racing in the run up to Christmas.

Jan 14th race day

With a last minute change of date numbers were down, with only seven people managing to make it for the rare Sunday raceday using the long track and racing in the normal direction.

Support race , Club SCX lorries:

With cold tyres and a dusty track there was much sliding and bumping throughout the race heats with Mark R eventually coming home just ahead of Mark J, the top five being covered by less than a lap.

Main race, Rally cars:

With some new owner/driver cars being tried out for the first time the racing was fast and furious with Mark J coming home ahead of Vic, with Ben in a great third spot.

Extra support race, Club Ninco Peugeots 206's:

With the low turnout and slick organisation there was time for a third class, the tried and trusted club Peugeots. Being Vic' prepared the cars were very evenly matched leading to close racing, with Mark J taking the honours.

Next raceday is on Sat 10th Feb, Open class with Sports, GT and Le Man type cars with unlimited motor rpm and chassis.

Moving swiftly on:

Next meeting: Sat 10th Feb from 5pm-10pm.

Mains: Owner/driver Sports, GT and Le Mans cars. Both the chassis and motor are unlimited.

Support race: Club Scalextric Karts.

Track layout could be the `L’ extension nearest the door, which we've tried once before and everyone liked?

(Amendment to ground clearance rule on further checking: On standard `Slot it’, MSC, NSR and some Scalextric cars and referring to reviews in model car magazines the new limit is 1mm under the car.)

A suggestion from some members: 'Can we race F1 cars in the future?' Let me know on the night.

Vic.

Sat 10th Feb race day.

Reverting to the regular Saturday rather than Sunday night for the February meeting saw attendance leap from seven to twelve, including two new members and peaking at thirteen for the final round, when Mark R arrived after his shift-work ended.

The recently extended track was used, with newbies Graham and James doing particularly well for their first time on a large circuit.

1st Support race: Club Scalextric Karts

The Karts produced some very close racing with `do or die’ driving to gain an extra section as per the photo, where the power was switched off just before it crossed the beam at the end of the race.  Mark J took the overall win, one point four laps ahead of Vic, who was harassed to the line by relative newcomer Ben, who was just a tenth of a lap down. In fact it was that close that second to fifth places were covered by just three tenths of a lap.

2nd Support race: Club Sideways cars

Another win and close finish for Mark J, this time Ben slotting into second spot just half a lap down. The Sideways Gp5's  were MUCH faster cars for the new drivers, with faster crashes involving innocent cars - but that's racing for you.

Main race, Owner/driver Sports and GT

The owner/driver class produced an extremely varied field with six different slot car manufacturers and seven full scale makes represented. Vic took first place in his own right with a Slot.it Porsche 956 and third with one of his loan cars, an NSR Aston Martin driven by Mark R. Ben's really giving the established drivers a hard time, finishing in the top three for the third round of the night, putting his yellow NSR McLaren in second place. Graham and James showed their hand here, finishing mid-field in their first 'open class' event, boding well for the future.

Ninco Lightning Renault Megane  - driver Mark J                    Vic's Carrera Ferrari 458
(+Sideways Nissan  club car)

Slot it Porsche 956 'Marlboro', Vic's race winner               Slot it Mclaren GT1 raced by Mark R

Slot it Porsche 956 Jagermeister. Vic's backup car             NSR Aston Martin white/blue raced by David

Ben's yellow NSR Mclaren 720s                                          NSR Aston Martin Gulf raced by Mark R (& Vic in one heat)

Scaleauto Toyota GT1 (Vic's) for guest drivers                         Ninco Mclaren GT 'Fina’ raced by guest

Vic's Slot it Ferrari 312p, tested but not raced.

(As well as club cars Vic' also provided loan cars for those that needed them. Club controllers are also provided so the first 'trial meeting' is entirely free for those that want to give the Bury St Edmunds club a try.)
