Conington Park
#61

A nice addition, and I think the scale works well  Thumbup

I don't know if the one at Donnington was full scale or not, but didn't realise it had been removed.

The Spitfire was a full scale fibreglass replica similar to the 'gate guardians' at many RAF bases. It was removed after the disastrous takeover of the circuit in 2007-2009 when an abortive attempt was made to host the British GP there. The  circuit was basically destroyed by the bunch of idiots who leased it during this period.

The track was partly dug up and every one of its distinctive features disappeared when the track was restored a few years later:
Dunlop bridge:
Ironwork sold for scrap and the fibreglass Dunlop panels sold at auction LINK to Chris Evans, last heard of residing in his garden. Bet that seemed like a good idea at the time!

Spark plug commentary box:
Disappeared at the same time as the Spitfire, fate unknown.

Starkey's bridge extension:
Dismantled at same time, Pirelli clock and Blue Star rocket both sold at auction LINK and LINK. Purchasers unknown.

As my track is set in the pre 2008 period the spark plug, Dunlop bridge and Spitfire are still in existence:
Unfortunately I don't have room for Starkey's bridge.

Amazing looking track Brian

It’s a real shame that the track was ripped to pieces, have some really fond memories over the years of the old Donington, especially the first time I (in my opinion) cracked the Hollywood, Craner and Old hairpin section in my old 911, never felt a buzz like it since.

Can still vividly remember missing
my braking point and overcooking my brakes at the end of the straight, trying to take the Esses at stupid mph and competing a 720 on the pit straight…new undies needed after that one!!!

I've only been to the real life Donington once, I won a pair of tickets slot racing, to the DTM round back in 1991 or 92, believe it or not I couldn't find anyone that wanted a free ride AND ticket to the meeting so I went alone and a ticket went spare.

Bernie, racing since 1969 Wavegreen

Experiment with a BIG SCREEN so my little people don't miss any of the action. Rofl

It’s interesting to here as I never knew until last year just how many small tracks there are in the UK as my son raced there last year in Formula Fords.  I am truly amazed by the coverage and excitement around these small local tracks on the internet, television and in person.  Truly impressive.

Some small additions to the track:
Wheelie bins (from WASP) for garage rubbish.

    CCTV cameras from HLT.

Hi Brian,
this is fantastic.

I have just found this forum as I want to build a Donington replica.
I am planning on building it for my Moto GP bikes.
I was hoping to find a layout plan with what track pieces I need, looking through your posts I'm guessing it's just a matter of laying it out and working out what bends are what.

I hope you don't mind me using your posts as reference, it is spot on.
I've got loads of little figures etc from my kids toy boxes and I'm looking forward to the signage part as I'm a traditional signwriter so thats going to be fun.

Need to figure out what track pieces I'll need to add to my moto gp set now.

Cheers Tony
