tbh i dont think it matters that much that its posted in the scratch building forum
just as long as we all know where to post / find 
but saying that , i wouldn't mind a 3d page ( or what ever its called )

i always just look in 'recents' anyways then i don't miss much

The design aspect is a different skill than the printing. One can be a great designer and have no idea how to bring it into reality, as well as the converse.

I'm a big proponent of organization, but I understand the desire to not divide things into too-small pieces.
I'm sure Kevan provided some great ideas privately, so hopefully there's a new forum of some kind popping up soon, even if it's not exactly how I might have done it. It just doesn't make any sense not to have at least one sub forum, wherever it gets put, for "3D" of various topics, whether it's printing or designing. Once you have the print in hand, what you do with it makes sense to be put under a scratch building forum. It's the getting it into your hand that deserves a sub forum of some kind.

Personally, and IMHO, no offense taken from those who disagree...
new top level called "3D" (parallel to "Slot Cars" and "Digital")
- Design (CAD/modeling)
- FFF Printing (filament)
- Resin Printing
- Other printing (SLS, and emerging tech)

The 3D forum would be where people ask "what kind of printer do I get for printing bodies?" along with an introduction to what all these things are. Each sub forum would be where people ask for help, or share their tips or whatever for those specific topics.

I don't use Tinkercad, you can modify meshes in 3DBuilder or Netfabb

Kevan, we have no hang-ups about links to other sites, unlike some forums I could mention. You are welcome to post links to anywhere you choose apart from the obvious no-no's like gambling or porn sites.

Re: File Size, even an STL can be pretty large when the model is highly detailed. One way to reduce the file size is by reducing the detail. Sometimes you can get away with a pretty significant detail reduction without impacting print quality.

Fusion 360 has some mesh reduction tools, as does the forthcoming PrusaSlicer (currently in Alpha). Meshmixer does as well, I believe. 

Also, 3mf is a compressed (sort of) file type, so if you can download the mesh into a program (such as PrusaSlicer) that can export/save as 3mf, then the file size will be a lot smaller in most cases, without any loss of detail.

Yes, often you'll need to use two or three different softwares at the same time...then of course there's the waiting time for them to finish processing the data..........................................................it can take............................................................... Ages!
