Doug - need to ask you to do a 'How to' again please ......
I am sure my camera is good enough, but a) my technique and b) my flash/lighting is all wrong.
So any help will be appreciated....

Sounds like a theme for a weekly topic?

abie321, I rarely use (read NEVER) the on camera flash. I have an led desk lamp that I put a diffuser on to soften the intensity. In the case of the Ford GT, it was a semi-transparent styrofoam packing box that one of my cars was sent in. There is a fair amount of Photoshop involved in cleaning up the dust on the car, scratches, and misc. imperfections. As I've stated before, I try NOT to use anything you can't find in the alley trash. At this point, having photographed in excess of 300 cars, doing something different is a bigger challenge than getting the light right. There are only a certain number of subjects any photographer is interested in, and after nearly 50 years of doing it, doing something different with the ones you are interested in becomes a real challenge..................and slot cars ARE a real challenge!

Cleaning up dust in photoshop! And there was me wondering how you managed to get the cars so clean :-)
There is suddenly so much more hope for me now ;-)
Slot cars are not life and death. They are so much more than that

The Spot Healing Brush Tool will be your new best friend! Once you start to enlarge the image, all the dust shows!

Hello Doug,
How long did it take you to produce that picture?

Hi Leo...from setup to finish, maybe 1.5-2 hours. I spend a lot of time cleaning up the dust...the better the lens you have, the more the dust (and paint, assembly defects) shows!
