UK HO Drag Proxy Winter Series 2020-1 Preview - woodcote - 13th-Oct-20

[attachment=9477]

The Rock County Eighth Mile Winter Series starts in November and runs through to March next year. Jadlam Toys & Models are kindly sponsoring the series. All the pre-race build-up and race coverage takes place here on SlotRacer Online. Reports, results and photographs from each event will be collected together in the South Coast HO Dragster fanzine - previous editions can be found in the SlotRacer Online Library here: slotracer.online/library/south-coast-ho-dragster

There are five socially-distant mail-in proxy HO drag races that make up the series:
The five events will be divided into two themes - NHRA and Nostalgia - each running at two events and rounding off the series with a three-day finale featuring both themes and all the classes. Micro Scalextric Street Stock will remain the centrepiece of all five events.

NHRA-themed events: The NHRA-themed events includes an evolution of our Micro Scalextric Super Stock class. Cars are now fitted with a 6-ohm Tomy can motor. We’ll call this ‘Micro Scalextric SuperStock 6.0’. The 4-Gear NHRA Funny Cars, Pro Stockers and Pro Mods get their own elimination racing format. The Top Fuelers will continue in a match race format - with a ladder competition at the series finale in March.

Nostalgia-themed events: Nostalgia events keep the popular Micro Scalextric Street Stock race - the Nostalgia theme breaks out with the support classes. We define ‘Nostalgia’ as pre-1979 style body shells. The T-Jet class is tweaked to bring it in line with the Nitro Slots Pancake Stock rules. The 4-Gear ‘Legends’ Funny Cars now get their own elimination competition. And there’s a new Nostalgia Micro Scalextric class that will start as a match racing format, with a ladder format showdown in March.

Winter Series Regulations: You’ll find the regulations for the Winter Series explained fully in the posts below. The T-Jet and 4-Gear classes now run to the NTRA Pancake Stock rule set. The Micro Scalextric Street and Super Stock have stayed almost the same - apart for the motor replacement in Super Stock. We ask that the Nostalgia ‘Micro Scalextric 2019’ cars are run as stock - although the chassis tabs can be removed and the wheels may be replaced - wheelie bars are permitted and strict pre-1979 style bodies please!

Practicalities & postage: These socially-distant events are designed so that everyone can participate with no risk - even those who are shielding. The thirty-one people who took part in the Summer Series enjoyed themselves, so why not give it a go this time!

RE: HO Drag Proxy Winter Series 2020-1 Preview - woodcote - 15th-Oct-20

In the UK, they are common. Jadlam Toys & Models sell the individual cars and all the sets.

In terms of US retailers, Hornby USA sell individual cars For $14.99 each - which works out the same as we pay in the UK: https://www.scalextric.com/us-en/shop/by-brand/micro/cars.html

American retailers that sell Scalextric should also sell them, but be aware many will also sell the old-style Micro sets. I found this new 2019/2020 set for $35 at LEB Hobbies - two cars plus the track we use (although I bump it up to 12 volts):  https://www.lebhobbies.com/g1151t-micro-scalextric-justice-league-battery-op-p-9250.html?cPath=4_608

RE: HO Drag Proxy Winter Series 2020-1 Preview - Ecbill - 16th-Oct-20

Good information Andy.  Thank you.

Are there any distinguishing features to spot the 2019 cars verses other Micro Scalextrics?  The biggest one I’m aware of is the N20 motor.  Vendors don’t seem to be very generous with photos, so it’s hard to tell.  They do mention being battery powered.

Most of those shown have cartoon and super hero bodies.  Guessing that has a lot to do with allowing changes to the bodies and wheels.

The cars in the James Bond set are sharp looking.  Are they 2019 cars?

RE: HO Drag Proxy Winter Series 2020-1 Preview - woodcote - 16th-Oct-20

I put this list together for the Scalextric website forum. It is as definitive a list as possible for the new-generation Micro Scalextric products...

2019 sets
G1150 - My First Scalextric
G1140 - My First Scalextric Looney Tunes (Daffy Duck vs Bugs Bunny)
G1143 - Micro Scalextric Justice League (Superman vs Batman)
G1142 - Micro Scalextric Wacky Races (Mean Machine vs Turbo Terrific)
G1149 - Micro Scalextric Law Enforcer
Aldi exclusive - Micro Scalextric City Collision
Lidl exclusive - Micro Scalextric Rocket Raiders
Lidl exclusive - Micro Scalextric Arctic Assault

2019 & 2020 individual cars
G2164 - Looney Tunes Road Runner car
G2165 - Looney Tunes Wile E. Coyote car
G2166 - Wacky Races Penelope Pitstop car
G2167 - Justice League Superman car
G2168 - Justice League Wonder Woman car
G2169 - Justic League The Flash car

2020 sets
G1141 - My First Scalextric Looney Tunes Battery Powered Set (Daffy Duck vs Bugs Bunny)
G1151 - Micro Scalextric Justice League Batman vs Superman (Battery powered) - US exclusive
G1154 - My First Scalextric (Battery powered)
G1155 - Micro Scalextric Batman vs Joker (Battery powered)
G1160 - Micro Scalextric Ryan's Police Chase (Battery powered)
G1161 - Micro Scalextric James Bond - No Time To Die (Battery powered)

There are also four Micro Scalextric accessory packs in the 2020 Scalextric catalogue:

G8043 - Micro Scalextric Mains Powered Track Piece (UK only)
G8045 - Micro Scalextric Track Extension Pack - Straights & Curves
G8046 - Micro Scalextric Track Extension Pack - Stunt Loop
G8047 - Micro Scalextric Spare Guide Pack (8 guides and braids, plus one screw)

There have been various Micro Scalextric James Bond 007 sets over the years. Only the G1161 'No Time To Die' set has the new-generation track and cars.

I believe that all the sets available in the USA are battery powered. This makes no difference to the cars - both battery and mains-powered sets run at 9-volts.
