Milwaukee
The Milwaukee Mile is one of the oldest race tracks in the world. The basic oval layout of the circuit dates right back to 1876, originally being used as a horse racing track. The first motorsports event was held on September 11, 1903, and the track was in continuous use right up until 2015, hosting a wide variety of races.
Through the 1930s and 40s the infield of the circuit was the site of an American football pitch, used by the Green Bay Packers, even hosting the 1939 NFL Championship game, which the Packers won.
Surprisingly, the circuit wasn't actually paved until 1954, at which point the infield road section was also constructed. The infield was altered slightly for the 1955 season, but since then the layout has remained much the same.
Sadly, the Milwaukee Mile, one of the oldest and most famous race tracks in the world, has lain dormant since 2015. In spite of the circuit's long history, it's future remains uncertain.
