Benguela
Autódromo de Benguela was a 2½ mile race track, situated by the Praia Morena beach, in the coastal town of Benguela. Opened on the 21st May 1972, the circuit was the first permanent race track in Angola, though it's more illustrious counterpart in Luanda opened just one week later.
For the next two years the circuit was used for a series of long distance sportscar races in the Angolan championship, including 500km races in both 1973 and 1974. But in 1975 Portugal granted its colonies independence, and Angola quickly descended into a fierce civil war, bringing racing to a standstill.
Since then, the circuit has rarely been used, and has fallen into disrepair. The outline of the track is still visible in aerial photographs, but the buildings have all gone, and the track surface is dilapidated.
