Micro Scalextric sets are basically unheard of in Canada. This was clearly bought new in Europe. It never saw use because it uses a 230-volt transformer. It is the only set I've ever seen. The seller was almost giving it away. I can only assume no one wanted to deal with 230-volt transformer issue. The plug is very different from what we use in Canada. That will scare the average person off.

The box is still shiny considering it's from around 2006. The spare braids are still in the bag.

The cars still sparkle.

I already noted another green Aston DB9 in the field of drag-race cars. I'm not sure about the black Aston and Ferrari F430.

As time passes. I'm considering buying a 4-gear drag car. There are not a lot of choices out there. But I'm not a fan of showing up to a race with the same car as someone else.
After a lot of searching. I finally found a somewhat rare 1971 Charger I really like. When I finally press "add to cart"... it's not in stock.
So gave up on main stream liveries, and took the road less travelled. I have some Plum Crazy Purple around here somewhere.

Cars are finally arriving. Both the Cuda's are new. The cars in the front are the main hopefuls for proxy drag racing. The one's behind are the challenge cars. Whichever ends up fastest, goes to the proxy.
The naked white Cuda will be painted. I can't see buying another new top fuel funny car as a challenger. The Dyno-Mite dragster might end up in a vintage grudge match.

More bodies and Vincent wheels came in from Mike Vitale of MEV Originals. The Lola T70's are both exceptional. The red 66 Corvair, and white 63 Impala are for someone else on this forum to repay a favour. The beige 64 Impala with the blem got thrown into the box as a surprise. I can easily fix it! Thanks a million, Mike!

Impalas, 'Cudas ,and 'Vairs ...
Oh my!
Yer mom warned ya about hanging out with slot car guys. Now ya got a 2 scale habit ... and it's fun to watch. LOL.

2-scale? More like a 1/32 scale habit. And a 1/64 scale habit. And...
I think 1/43 is next on the list.
It's all good.

Drag race test track version 1A. Just the basics. The shut down area was very long because I had no idea how much was needed without a pillow. No power yet. The green tape on the wall beside the track marks the 7-foot run.
[attachment=13606]
A regular power track was originally used. A hairpin for a return lane was added at the 12-foot mark. The 7-foot walk isn't the problem. Bending over to pick up the cars is not fun. Power to both lanes was activated at the same time through a power-bar. The pins at the end of 7-feet were modified to cut power.
[attachment=13607]
The power track was changed over to the return lanes with a normal power supply and controllers. The 12-volt power supply was soldered to the race lanes through a toggle switch. Everything powers up through the power-bar. A 9-inch piece of dead track totally isolates both power supplies from each other.
[attachment=13608]
A 12-foot by 8-inch board sits under the track. It will eventually get mounted and hinged to the wall. Silicone tires pick up every spec of dust. Keeping the track safe and clean is a good thing.

Stripes were officially painted at the start and finish line.

Scalex cars with braids run much better than AW with shoes. It's time to pick a few AW cars to solder braids under.

ha HA!
You're gonna drill holes in yer wall. Im very sorry for leading you astray.
Not to be a buttinsky, some guys shunt across the rails in the shut down area for a more controlled deceleration via dynamic braking. I think Woodcote's original strip used DB, if memory serves. Maybe it was a dream.
I know you cant publicly divulge skunk werks intel of the inner sanctum, but how about some fashion pix of your newly resuscitated models?

Hi Bill,
I'll see your "haHA!", and raise you a "Mu" for a total "MuhaHA!"
My wife and I were eating supper while watching a bad movie and I mentioned to my wife that I'm thinking of adding another track to the AFX wall and she just nodded. Bingo!
I did many trial runs to measure how far the cars would pass the cut-off spot. So far the classes of cars I've run don't make it to the hair-pin. This is typical placement at the end of a good run. The 62 Chevy beats my 70 Camaro by that much every time no matter what lane. The way they sit is how they crossed the finish line. Very interesting indeed. Easy enough to switch bodies.

I have yet to test the fastest class of car (for me) which is the 6-ohm Mini Scalex. But there is already a dynamic braking system ready and in place. I just unplug the hand controllers and power supply and plug in a few short circuits.

I've been working on proxy cars and don't have very much to show. Most of them look store bought with the exception of the tires.
I cleaned up the Chaparral chassis with 2/3 warm water, salt, and 1/3 vinegar. That made a noticeable difference. Here are the before and after pics.

As soon as proxy cars are in transit. I can relax and tinker with upgrades like new wheels and tires for the Chaparral, etc.
While working on, and testing proxy cars. More cars have mysteriously become available. Like, from out of no where!

After monkeying around getting the track to work. It was nice to finally start testing cars. The 4-gears were first. They are a bit strange to me.
The Boss Mustang must be an older release? I bought it used.
[attachment=13687]
One test run showed that the newer funny-car was barely limping along. The Don Prudhomme Cuda was second slowest.
Every chassis was taken apart. Every cluster gear was loose. Some were very loose. All the cluster shafts needed peening. Grease was sitting beside the gears instead of anywhere near the teeth. The pins for the idlers were dry. The John Force funny car had one motor brush twisted completely sideways in the barrel. And I thought the T-jets were a little rough. Not compared to the 4-gears.
They all run much smoother and faster now. The Snake/Cuda and John Force Chevy funny car are ready to race with the exception of the braids. That's next.
It's more fun to tinker when you eventually have a little success.
