RE: Rally Cars Slotting Proxy 2023 - Kevan - 13th-Mar-23

I dug out a car built about 3 or 4 years ago on a brass chassis, it never went well, I think I've got it going a bit better (on my 2 second per circuit Scaley Sport test track) and should like the rough tracks better for the next Rally proxy.

A Team Slot Alpine A110S, it's Slot Rally this week at the club so will give it a run.

after a little recuperation from the journey to Wales and back, its time for the "Official" Results

So many thanks to Andy for providing us with 2 superb technical Rally Stages

RE: Rally Cars Slotting Proxy 2023 - Graham - 13th-Mar-23

Pitlane Review
Well it was another Great Round by Andy at Brighton, two very different Rally Stages which tested the cars to their maximum.And now they onto another new host BARacer whose feeling a little nervous about running his stages, but I am sure he will do us proud.

Event 1
Manx Andy's Jaguar XK120 had a firm grip on these stages and is now demonstrating its true potential. I decided to change the class classification of this car to Class C, for one thing it seemed completely daft to have one car in its own class, but apart from that it makes sense to classify these "Pro" built brass chassis based models according to their potential and this one is definitely running as fast as other Class C models.
Great to see the Austin Healey of Green Star Racing make it to the top, very well deserved.
I was disappointed to see the Roadrunners Jaguar XK120 struggling on the Ninco 1st stage, the chassis design was not very accommodating for adding ballast, but hopefully it will recover on the next Stages. On the other hand the Cortina of Lifeboats Racing seemed to be working better than could be imagined on such testing stages, well worth the additional help that the Harlequin garage put in to get this running reasonably steadily  Sun

Event 2
Great to see the little Metro of Bangers Racing now beginning to show its form after a slow start at Harlequin. But it will have a real job on its hand to keep up with the smooth running BMW M1 of Savage GT.  I am sure that Lifeboats Racing will be delighted with the steady running Audi Quattro A2. And Harrisons Racers Lancia 037 put in another great performance in this Round.

Event 3
Really surprised to see the Roadrunners Fiat 131 Abarth giving the Porsche 914/6 cars so much hassle at the front, I built it to see if I could get into the mix with these cars, but thought probably that at best it would be holding onto the their tails  Bigsmile But the Porsche 914/6 of Brumos RSR is uncomfortably close behind.
James@wyevalley the only in line version of the Porsche 914/6's is certainly competing with the Sidewinders and is creeping up the field. The fastest Triumph TR7 of BARacer is also keeping in touch with the front runners.
The Porsche 914/6 of Courtney Sport appears to have a guide related issue, so far the only car to have struggled with this, which was quite prevalent in the past Proxy events. So hopefully my message about guide dimensions is getting through, but I guess one or two can get caught in the net sadly.

Event 4
As Andy has said, this Event is very closely matched set of cars, I intentionally restricted the type of Car classes with the intention of making it so, so very happy see the results closely contested. On home turf the Subaru of Woodcote Racing was beyond reach of the other cars on this Round, but the Renault Clio of Scott Sports I think is going to give the runners at the top a very close contest, along with the superb Scalex Subaru of Team Alaric. Courtney Sports Porsche 924 definitely struggled more on these testing surfaces and will be glad to be back on flatter track surfaces for the next rounds.

Team Placings
Obviously the troubles of Courtney Sport have temporarily, I am sure, placed them on the back foot and the are not appearing on the top10 list currently. On the other hand Brumos RSR make their fist appearance in the top 10 with a great run of their Porsche 914/6  Yes just a pity about the BMW M1 troubles.
Savage GT still ahead at the top, but increasing pressure from the other 10 teams is going to make this an interesting and hard fault competition.

So we are off to see what BARacer Stages has install for us, plenty of thrills, but not too many spills I hope  Rofl

The #3 Porsche 914 is an inline Olifer chassis with a NSR EVO 21k Long can.  Hopefully it can catch the Abarth and hold off the other 914s and Audis.  Good luck to all the Builders on Raceday!!

RE: Rally Cars Slotting Proxy 2023 - BAracer - 15th-Mar-23

Hello from Eastbourne on the South Coast of England. I picked up the cars from Woodcote on Sunday, and after a few busy days at work, preparations are underway to run Round 3 of the Proxy in the coming days.

So this is the Friston Forest track where all the action will be taking place...

[attachment=29252]

A combination of Scalextric Classic track, and SCX low grip 'ice' track. Lap times are generally around the 12 second mark, so I intend to split the Round into two parts. Part 1 will be a three lap 'Prologue', whilst Part 2 will be a six lap 'Reliability' test.

My plan is to run the Prologue on Friday evening, and publish the results as soon as I can that night. I will then run two of the Reliability Events on Saturday morning and two on Sunday morning, wrapping up all the results before Mothering Sunday lunch!

RE: Rally Cars Slotting Proxy 2023 - Gpa113 - 16th-Mar-23

Good luck Jeremy  Thumbup

The Friston Forest stage looks great.  I am also going to use SCX ice effect "low grip" track, a proper rally surface, so the cars get sideways.  Will be very interested to see how you get on.

RE: Rally Cars Slotting Proxy 2023 - BAracer - 17th-Mar-23

OK Houston (or whichever part of the USA Brumos and Courtney come from), we have a problem!

I have run the 3 lap Prologue for each event, and the issue of guide depth has raised it's ugly head. Courtney and Brumos were the biggest sufferers, but almost from the first car I put on the track, it became clear it wasn't going be the fun filled evening I was hoping for. The blades on the two US cars were just too deep for my Scalextric Classic/SCX track. They basically 'interfaced' with the plastic tabs that form the bottom of the slot, and because their guides did not have any chamfer on the bottom corner, they just dug in and refused to move. I did manage to coax one of their cars round, but it was borderline in terms of risk of damage so I won't be trying it again in the longer second leg of the round. These cars will have their day on other tracks, but not this weekend I'm afraid.

The next phenomenon was cars with guides that were too deep but with chamfered leading edges, and there were quite a few of them. These cars went round, but the front of the cars were bouncing of the plastic slot tabs all the way round. I didn't run these cars at any kind of racing speed in order to avoid any mishaps, but they all recorded a time.

There were also some cars whose guides dragged in the slot around some of the tighter bends, causing some to stall. Unfortunately one of these bends was in the opposite side to the driver's station, so time was lost with me having to jump round and push it onto the next straight.

But there were cars in each Event that didn't suffer any of these issues, and this put them at the pointy end of the field. And none of the Event 4 Modern WRCs suffered, so that was a nice way to end the evening.

So I hope the above helps with your understanding of the following result sheets for this evening's efforts...

Event 1 Monte Carlo - first leg
[attachment=29280]

Event 2 Rally B Cars - first leg
[attachment=29281]

Event 3 Rally Legends - first leg
[attachment=29282]

Event 4 Modern WRC - first leg
[attachment=29283]

I will be running two of the second legs tomorrow morning, and the remaining two in the evening.

Hi Guys, I am sorry but I don’t understand. If the cars have been scrutinised and conform to the standards then why are there track issues?
What we found was that classic Scalextric track, which had been well used (but cared for) was still prone to warping and shifting and the slot deforming. We stopped using classic track for these very reasons.
