Fantastic - chuffed to bits with the Jag XK120 taking victory in the 1950s class in my first ever proxy event!

(Commiserations to 'Stirling' and his Merc 300SLR - it was a close run thing!).
Many thanks to Graham and all the hosts for such a well planned and run event!
Cheers,
Duncan

Thanks to Graham and all the hosts for such a meticulously run event. First ever proxy entered and it was surprisingly addictive checking in every weekend to see when the results popped up. I didn't get chance to watch much of the videos but it's amazing how much of a narrative can be made up from a few numbers in a table!
Thanks again to everyone who made it happen.

Well you know I spoke with Stirling about an hour ago, and he was his usual magnanimous self, he said of course the best car won and he thoroughly enjoyed the run up to John O'Groats.
Mind you he asked to borrow my bag of tools, something about he thought the Jaguar may have a rough journey home
Just taking abit of time to reflect on the competition, and will give my feedback on Wednesday, but I know the hosts felt privileged to be allowed to run all these cars, and without the support of all the entrants we would not had a show to put on.
So many thanks from the RoadRace team to you all.

Yes, a big thank you to all who helped make this event happen.
I am new to slot car racing, and due to lockdown restrictions, have had very little time on our club track in the past year. In fact I had never even heard of "proxy" events, this time last year! The thought of letting someone else have the fun of running your car, seemed very alien to me!
Anyway, decided to give it a go. Very much an unknown, preparing cars for tracks you had never seen, let alone, experienced. Then, hoping for a good performance by a driver who had only a few seconds of prior running of your car. Big decisions; which tyres will be best over 12 mixed stages, and, how low do you gear it? Hopefully, taking part in some slot rally events, this year, will give me a better idea of answers to these questions.
Anyway, it was great to watch the video'd stages and waiting for the official stage figures to come through.
Certainly something I would would do again. Very pleased that all of my cars proved reliable and got to the end. Two of the cars performed better than expected, but the one with the best pedigree was disappointing.
After the end of the rally, the team finished in the top 10, with all cars scoring some points during the race. Best thing was good performance of one car, looks like I'm in the prizes!!
Again, thank you to all who helped make this happen.

A big "thank you" to Graham and the team of stage hosts.
So much fun watching the photos, vids and results coming in over the duration of the event.
I've enjoyed all of ups and downs of every stage. Literally (on the track) and in the results tables.
2nd proxy for me. A new way to enjoy slotting during locked-down times.
Snapping at the heels of an over all podium but in the end , 4th place
2nd place in the A class Scaleys. Much better than I expected for a car that was grabbed from my son's toy box, had a bit of a clean up and new tyres. She'll get some front-end stability work, a new hydrodip paint job and will be back for a scrap next time. I'm wondering what her stand in (NSR) driver will have to say about driving the event? I'm sure he will claim all of the glory. (As drivers always do).
Inside the top 10 for my other two cars. The changes to the Megane (since the winter rally) to get her up and down devil's dyke proved to be a compromise too far, causing some roll deslot behaviour on other tracks.
A new body (no lights) with a thorough clean up and she'll be heading "down under" to take the fight to the Aussies in the Touring car proxy very soon.
2021 - THE road race - what a blast!

Hopefully it'll look a little more "concours" once it comes back and I repair the roof that it lost in the earlier stages! Also super pleased with my Pantera getting 3rd in Class B (although that's the wrong Pantera in the photo). Proper tense at the end there with the charging Clio hot on it's heels! Thanks to all the hosts for running each of the stages and thanks to Graham for all the arranging!
How Perfect!
The TR4 wins the TR7 Turner kit.
Looks like you've been conscripted the the TR7 Refurbs club Ade...

Just to endorse all the other comments to Graham for a Stirling job as his first race coordinators proxy event.. all went smoothly from the outside And the stages were all on time with the results passed through. So another big shout to all the host garages for doing a great job and a lot of them newbies too like me... A big learning curve for me, of how to run a host garage ... with lots of cars to run through..
There is always room for improvement.. video links and host feedback to the competitors...etc etc
From a competitors view as previously stated what to enter and how to tune for the variable tracks in which our cars had to face .. Not sure there is a perfect answer to that but the yellow Opel and the green Merc sure showed us the possibilities. Well done to them both as well as all the other worthy winners.
Pleased the Clio got a prize of sorts (looking pretty????) after a lengthy battle for a Podium went a bit array on the last stage...must have been a wild haggis which got in the way.. road kill no doubt.
Anyway congrats to team Demon.

That was a very enjoyable rally, thanks go to all the organisers and all my fellow competitors.
Some interesting things (to me) though, I very nearly entered my BMW 125 in class A, it looked to have the right attributes, flat floorpan, front wheels on the deck, not too much ground clearance etc, I'm just amazed that those entered didn't do better, I dont have any track at home to try cars, and our club hasn't been open for over a year (wooden routed anyway so not much comparison) so I stuck with my Merc which at least has run at our club 18 months ago.
I would like to know (from the drivers) what THEIR thoughts are on the lack of pace from the Beemers?
My brain is now working overtime, fathoming my tuning tips for the next proxy race.

Another thought...
How about a Tech sheet for the top cars, tyres, braids, gearing etc (if known).
It would help those that are new to the tuning game, and maybe they can improve their performance next time.

What a fabulous six weeks! Really enjoyable and exciting to see the variety of tracks and cars, plus the drama over the final few stages.
It seems a long time since the cars were in Brighton and I was driving them on the dastardly Devil's Dyke track. I still have a couple on my wishlist - a Pantera sitting at the top. I'm really surprised the green Mercedes didn't finish the job north of the border - but that's racing... Maybe the sight of Nessie gave it the willies?
It was fun seeing my Mégane take part and not come last. My bog-standard swapmeet-bargain Ninco Porsche 997 started quite well, but sadly fell away. I thought it was going to give Jeremy's Bentley a good battle over the course of the six weeks. Pleased to see the Gulf GT40 make a comeback and possibly(?) finish on the 1960s podium. Rebecca is disappointed - although not entirely surprised - with her low-budget Sanditon Motorsport cars, but it might be a struggle to get her to cough up for anything better. We'll see...
Congrats to Graham on a great event and bravo to all the hosts on carrying off some superb stages with
a lot of cars to run over a weekend
The
opening post is now fully updated with links to the start of each leg and the results of each stage - a bit like an index - so we can navigate and re-live the experience to our hearts' content.
