A mix of Modified and Open class cars, all of which seen driven carefully because they’re easily deslotted.
Geoff started the evening racing a Talbot but it kept slowing badly on a certain part of the track, after testing with another controller to confirm the controller wasn’t the problem was lent a Brabham by Chris…which lasted a while until the rear axle bearings parted company with the chassis…so finished this class with a third car, one of Kev’s Merc W165’s.
Brian, Chris, Mike & Kev had fairly uneventful races racing favoured cars in this class whilst Ed raced a borrowed Alfa Bimotore from Andy whilst he was in Dublin enjoying a pint of Guinness.
Race wins for Chris, Kev & Geoff

No Classics tonight although a couple were seen in practice beforehand.
NSR F1’s again the most popular with Mike racing a standard Allslot, a car he hadn’t raced for ages because he couldn’t find the chassis for it, something made him check the bodyshell, lo and behold the chassis was hiding underneath the bodyshell all along…anyway it goes great, the Flat6 motor running out of steam at the end of the straight but brilliant round the bends.
Heat #3 was a great race, Brian vs Mike…but who crossed the line first!...Brian with 35.12 laps, Mike with 35.11 laps, only a tenth of a second apart.
It turns out Brian backed off because he thought he only had to beat Mike by one lap to finish 2nd overall behind Kev…a dangerous game to play which meant he actually finished behind Geoff & Chris too.
Chris vs Geoff was good, Geoff got a lap on Chris in Heat #2 but Chris got the lap back in Heat #4 so it was all down to Heat #6. Geoff (Yellow) and Chris (Blue) lapping at very similar pace, both had a deslot but in the end Geoff finished a few seconds ahead in the heat and in the overall results.
Kev managed mainly clean races with a couple of deslots to finish comfortably ahead in the end.
Ed still learning the foibles of Red lane and the two corners that catch him out but went well in Yellow lane.
Race wins for Mike, Kev & Brian

A later than normal start as we waited for Brian who had a prior engagement…
Some wonderful close racing tonight. Ed, Mike & Geoff kicked off the racing and finished well spread out, after this heat the racing got a lot closer!
Kev (Chaparral) vs Andy (Merc 300SLR) was not only fast it was also close for two of the three heats with Andy winning both. Kev made the most of the run in Blue lane to overcome Andy’s advantage and edge ahead a few seconds overall.
Brian’s Ferrari is a very quick car in this class but couldn’t keep up with the two quicker cars ahead.
Mike & Geoff finished on the same lap in Heat #3, Geoff’s very noisy Jag was quicker but had more deslots than Mikes Moggy Racer. Geoff’s Jag sounded like the gearmesh was too loose and was confirmed after his race, it was quickly adjusted and we waited for his next heat to see a difference.
Poor Ed just can’t keep up with these quicker guys, the cars in this class need to be driven with a little care but he did find Kev’s voltage reduction box very useful…so useful in fact that it was packed away into his bag at the end of the night until Kev noticed!
Heat #5 saw Geoff’s adjusted mesh car…ready…set…GO!...and BOOM it quietly took off from the start and blasted round quicker than it’s ever gone, Mike’s Moggy didn’t stand a chance as the Jag gained an extra couple of laps.
Small Sports/Saloons is a completely different animal to what we used to see a few years ago with a couple of them more than matching most of the Group 5 cars.
Race wins for Geoff, Andy & Kev

Group 5
[attachment=29706]
Heat #1, One of the least changed classes we race, what was quick a few years ago is still quick today. After his earlier success, Geoff was pushing his BMW 320i round the track a fair bit quicker than previous outings easing to a first heat win ahead of Mike’s Capri. Ed racing in Blue lane just couldn’t keep the Porsche 935 in it’s own lane as it met a blue BMW 320i a few times too many!
Heat #3 and these three raced again, this time Mike’s Capri was more than a match for Geoff’s BMW finishing less than two seconds behind Geoff. Ed had a much better race this time.
Heat #5…this time Mike was in the quick Blue lane with Geoff in the slower Red lane and Mike had a clean and quick race that Geoff couldn’t match after an early ‘off’, Mike finishing nearly a lap clear with Ed setting his fastest lap in this heat.
The other three guys, Andy, Brian & Kev…Andy’s BMW M1 wasn’t being caught tonight, although Kev’s M1 managed to beat him when he was in Blue lane with Andy in Red lane.
Brian’s fast Capri really catching Kev’s M1 in the last heat towards the end of the race, another 30 seconds and it would have been a different result.
Race wins for Geoff, Andy, Kev & Mike

With new NSR Evo Supergrip tyres on the BMW’s they were expected to be quick…but what have NSR done to Evo Supers!...very soft, great grip for 10 laps then ball-up like Extremes always did. Needless to say tyre wear by the end of the evening was bad.
…but what superb racing we had, Heat #4, Andy & Mike finished a tenth of a second apart and Heat #6 saw Mike, Kev & Brian all finish on the same lap all less than 4 seconds apart.
Heat wins for Geoff, Andy, Mike & Kev

[attachment=30057]
These are great cars, clean the tyres, race all night, put them back in the box for next time…repeat!
The three cars all behave differently, the Porsche is quick but Red lane bites, the Viper feels top heavy but Blue lane is easiest whilst the Marcos is the best all-rounder.
Heat #4 was the only race where two cars finished on the same lap with Kev (Viper) and Andy (Porsche) finishing just over a second apart.
With everyone using the club controllers the settings seemed to vary wildly, the racing was amazing and there was another night of great banter.
Ed has progressed well, the Marcos in particular saw him finish on the same number of laps as Mike & Geoff managed with the same car.
Heat wins for Geoff, Andy, Mike & Kev

Hopefully we’ll see Nigel back again as he did very well for the first time on our track and these cars.

Mike turned up with the Little Druidale cottage and stone bridge fully painted, both looking fantastic.

Heats were chosen to put Ed, Mike H and A.N.Other together, with A.N.Other being Geoff’s Subaru…it wasn’t plain sailing for the Scooby…although he did win Heat #1 fairly easily.
Mike H’s Camaro won Heat #3 with his best lane score ahead of Ed’s Opel also with his best score with Geoff’s Scooby having 4WD system failure as the (laccy band) bound the front axle.
The Scooby with 4WD intact blasted round in it’s final heat with Geoff’s best lane score. Mike H vs Ed was great racing tonight, very close at times…but not as close as the following Sports racing.
Of the other cars raced tonight, Andy’s Peugeot was far ahead of the rest, winning all three of his heats.
Brian had the closest races tonight, his Opel finishing on the same lap as Kev’s Audi DTM in Heat #6 and Mike’s Notchback Mustang in Heat #7, both of these heats won by Andy’s Peugeot. Heat #6 had a car from each class, Standard, Modified and Open.

[attachment=30173]
Time for the quick guys…
Ed & Mike H were joined this time by Brian, this turned out to be a good choice as again there were super close races between Ed & Mike, both finishing on the same lap at the end of Heat #1 and Brian’s Mosler way off ahead.
Mike’s Mclaren improved each round and Ed’s Audi couldn’t quite match the pace but they were banging doors a few times, it was great to watch.
Heat #2 saw the return of Andy’s Porsche 917, setting a great pace in Red lane with Geoff & Mike B chasing hard with Moslers.
Heat #4 was going to be quick as Kev’s ‘Copper Rocket’ and Andy’s Porsche were hammering round the track under 6 second laps, Geoff’s Mosler trying hard to stay in touch.
Heat #6 was close as Geoff & Mike raced across the finish line within one second of each other whilst Kev’s Mosler finished on his 32nd lap.

[attachment=30362]
It seems Geoff’s Talbot Lago mechanics don’t learn lessons easily, yet again gear issues robbing him of probably a class win but when that troublesome (plastic) pinion was pushed on for the one good run the car had that turned out to be THE race of the night as Ed & Mike B lined up alongside the Talbot for Heat #3…it was nip and tuck all race as all three cars crossed the line within three seconds of each other, the Talbot just crossing the line ahead of Ed’s (Kev’s) Merc W165 and Mike’s Connaught a couple of seconds later. These three raced each other in all three heats.
Brian, Chris & Kev were the other group who raced each other three times, the closest of which was Heat #4. Kev’s Auto Union got away and clear but a couple of costly deslots meant Brian’s Vanwall took the heat win by a few car lengths. Chris going well on the whole also had a couple of costly deslots costing at least a lap finished two laps behind.
Heat #5 was also a close one as Mike’s Connaught (Red lane) and Ed’s Merc (Blue lane) crossed the finish line two seconds apart, Mike losing out with a costly deslot.
Heat wins in heat order for Mike B, Kev, Geoff, Brian & Ed (that’s nicely shared for only six drivers)
[attachment=30364]
F1
[attachment=30363]
The F1 races were increased to 200 seconds each as Chris had to leave for work and we were down to five racers.
Geoff volunteered to race Ed, both with NSR F1’s, Heat #3 was the closest of their races as they both finished on the same lap, Ed (Yellow) managing his best lane score and hot lap in any class but couldn’t keep up with Geoff (Red) who can push much harder when the chips are down.
Brian & Mike were never going to keep up with Kev’s Black Bull so no close heats here but Mike managed to keep within two laps of Brian’s F1 for two heats.
Heat wins in heat order for Geoff & Kev

Kevan - 4th-Jun-23
Race reports - 1st June - Small Sports/Saloons plus Group 5
TT practice week, not easy to get to the club with evening road closures and club members marshalling but four club members and a visitor made it tonight.
With numbers being short we ran two car heats with a full grid for the final heat.
Small Sports/Saloons
[attachment=30535]
Compared to where this class was two or three years ago, these cars have come on leaps and bounds, if you could get round under 7 seconds you were quick, now we’re comfortably into the mid 6 second laps and a couple are quicker than that.
Alan borrowed a Jag XK120 from Andy, the same car seen a few times recently in Slot Rally and the Rally Proxy. Geoff also raced an XK120, these two raced in the final heat which was great racing.
Ed raced a Metro 6R4 which was the only Small Saloon raced tonight, he’s gone back to using his thumb for the throttle and has much better car control this way.
Kev’s Chaparral and Brian’s Ferrari 365 were both quick, Kev’s in the Modified Class, Brian’s in the Open Class. Both cars racing each other in Heat #6, both setting their fastest scores and best hot laps of the night.
Heat wins in heat order for Kev, Brian, Alan & Geoff
[attachment=30537]
Group 5
[attachment=30536]
This class has probably been the most stable of all the classes we race, Racer Sideways being the cars of choice, some standard, some modified with SlotIt pods and NSR motors.
Brian spent ages before the racing, working on his Capri, changing wheels and tyres, trying to find the performance his Group 5 has enjoyed for months…in the end opting for the same set he took off then playing catch-up on tyre prep…one race too late. In the end that poor start created the closest finish for final positions that was only noticeable when the scores were measured to thousandths of a lap as Alan equalled Brian's score of 98.05 laps but Brian’s Capri finished 0.003 of a lap ahead.
Geoff prefers racing his BMW 320i in standard format and it goes really well, in fact more than competitive with most of the quicker modified cars.
Kev’s BMW M1 seemed a little loose coming out of corners in the first two heats, tightening the body mounting screws that were loose calmed it down again for the final race.
Ed’s Porsche 935 never looked driveable, it was off the track every 5 seconds. He was offered the chance to race one of the club BMW 320i’s but chose to ‘stick with it’...it’s currently back in the garage for a service.
Alan’s borrowed Capri was driven well, in his first race (Heat #2) against Kev’s BMW, a deslot each kept it even, the Capri set a quicker hot lap but couldn’t quite catch the BMW. His other close race was Heat #7 racing Geoff & Ed with the Capri and BMW finishing within 4 seconds as Alan’s Capri crossed the finish line first.
Heat wins in heat order for Geoff, Kev, Brian & Alan
[attachment=30538]
—----------------------------------------------------------------
Next week is Le Manx…Classics for the first race, Group C and LMP’s for the second race. Each car will have 5 qually laps and a target score will be given to every driver based on their best qually lap to try to match, the closest to that wins the handicap race.
…so far the fastest car has never won one of these handicap races, predictable and consistent usually wins - plus a pinch of luck!
RE: MSCC 2023 Race results & reports etc. -
Kevan - 17th-Jun-23
Race reports - 15th June - Saloon/DTM plus Sports
Another great turnout with 8 club members and guests.
It was Alan’s last night before returning home to South West England, it’s been a pleasure to see him these last few weeks. He’s a good driver and no doubt takes lots of tips back with him…and he’s promised to return again next year. He brought a load of tasty cakes as a thank you for accepting him so readily into the club.
SALOON
[attachment=30627]
A fair share of Standard and Open class cars, Ed, Mike H & Nigel raced each other all night and had some great close races between them at times.
Unfortunately Mike B arrived during the second race so sat out the Saloon racing.
Brian raced his Broadspeed Jag XJ12C which is quite an imposing beast for a Saloon, preparation not going as planned as body mount screws went missing on the track!
Geoff raced his Scooby again, this time with a repaired 4WD elastic band (cut’n’shut), it’s a fair race car as well as Rally car.
Andy, Kev & Ed raced their usual Saloon class choices, Mike H has a nicely running Peugeot 406 Coupe. Andy’s Peugeot and Kev’s Opel were the pick of Open and Standard classes.
Alan ‘piloted’ a rapid Mustang borrowed from Andy whilst Nigel raced Brian’s Peugeot 406.
Race wins in heat order for Mike H, Kev & Andy
[attachment=30629]
SPORT
[attachment=30628]
Mike B joined in, one of four standard NSR Moslers, joined by Mike H’s NSR McLaren and Ed’s SlotIt Group C Jag.
Two Modified race cars, Alan’s Group C Nissan and Nigel’s Racer Riley. Both drivers having issues, Alan raced the Nissan in last weeks Le Manx and loved it but tonight just couldn’t get on with the car the same. Meanwhile Nigel should have found Brian’s Riley dead easy to drive…maybe it’s TOO easy and made him feel he could push it right into corners…then found out (numerous times) that he couldn’t.
Only one Open class car, Andy’s Porsche 917K (probably his favourite car)...not so favourite in Blue lane, I don’t know what happened but 5 off’s cost him 3 laps.
Standard class was busy, Kev’s ‘Copper Rocket’ Mosler was unlikely to be caught…but how long can those tyres last? Until then, a car not likely to be caught in Standard Sport.
Brian & Geoff battled for 2nd spot in this class, Brian’s Mosler had the consistency, Geoff’s had the pace. ‘the incident’ in the final race as Kev’s Mosler was stuck in his lane, the wheels were spinning but the car wasn’t moving…until Geoff’s Mosler shifted it probably cost Geoff 5 seconds which would have made 2nd place very close…caused some heavy duty banter…that’s racing as they say.
Mike B’s Mosler looks like the tyres are shot but still managed three consistent runs and not far off the pace of Brian & Geoff.
Mike H’s McLaren lost a load of time in Red lane but he has the car running nicely (when there’s not a huge chunk of rubber stuck on the front tyre). His pace a little shy of Mike B’s Mosler but enough to keep clear of Ed’s Jag, although after Heat #1 it looked like he was going to struggle against the pace of Ed’s Jag and Nigel’s Riley found more than it’s second wind by stamping his authority in the other two heats.
Ed’s Jag looked like he had the totally wrong controller settings (it was perfect in testing) until a team member came along and adjusted the controller mid-race…goes to show twiddling with your nobs can be detrimental to race results.
Race wins in heat order for Ed, Kev, Mike H, Andy & Geoff

Next week is Club GT40 and Club Revoslots
RE: MSCC 2023 Race results & reports etc. -
Kevan - 23rd-Jun-23
Race reports - 22nd June - Club GT40 & Club Revoslot
Seven club members turned up on the longest day of the year to race club cars.
It was Geoff’s birthday yesterday, the Italian cookies he brought in were very moreish…
Gav arrived looking much more lively than of late, the yellow Ninco Ferrari 250 TR cheered him further.
As usual during practice there was an array of all sorts of cars, proxy car testing, tuning testing, a couple of new cars recently acquired and a rather nice UPO Shadow DN4 for sale if anyone is interested.
Mike B arrived nice and early, not missing any racing tonight after last week's missing Saloons.
Club GT40’s, not everyone’s favourite class, we’ve had them a few years, they’re battered and bruised but go pretty well, the Yellow car in particular is a great race car.
The red GT40 is the next best car whilst the Blue one didn’t like the right hand corner after the start straight, catching most of us out.
We all used club controllers apart from Ed who uses a thumb controller, he went a bit too well in the first race with threats of making him use the same controllers as the rest of us.
The Revoslots always go well, the standard tyres have turned out to be exceptionally good. With recent problems concerning the quality of NSR tyres it may be a good idea to consider using Revoslot air tyres instead.
We had a couple of situations during the evening where a faster driver was in the middle lane with the two other drivers racing side-by-side creating a problem for the faster driver…driving through the ‘gates of hell’ was the phrase coined which can ends in tears so careful navigation and timing were called upon which isn’t so easy when all three cars are the same…all part of the fun.
These two classes of cars are actually fairly evenly matched as most of us had similar scores with both lots of cars. Mike B and Kev both went markedly better with the Revos than the GT40’s.
The head-to-head battles tonight were close, Kev & Andy, Geoff & Brian, Ed & Gav. Mike B was the second fastest Revo driver in both Red and Yellow lanes.
[attachment=30683]
[attachment=30684]
A quick look at the controller settings selected by other drivers showed a huge difference in preference, from maximum brakes to minimal brakes with the heavy Revoslots, it’s surprising how you adapt to a simple controller from an adjustable-everything one with not a great deal of difference in your lap times.

Next week is Slot Rally
RE: MSCC 2023 Race results & reports etc. -
Kevan - 24th-Jul-23
Race reports - 20th July - GP/Prewing + Classic F1/F1
Grand Prix/Prewing (half tonners)
[attachment=31118]
Eight racers tonight, with seven club members and a visitor, Joel. We had four other visitors during practice, two pairs of two, all seemed impressed with our club facilities and what we race, the more that see what we do the better the chance we’ll get someone wanting to have a go.
Joel, Ed & Mike H raced each other for three heats, two of those heats saw the closest racing in the GP/Prewing racing.
Heat #3 saw Joel’s Bimotore finish a few seconds ahead of Ed’s Lancia D50, then Heat #6 saw Mike H’s Cooper finish a few seconds ahead of Joel’s Bimotore.
The other heats were more stretched out, Andy’s Ferrari 156 (Open class) and Kev’s Auto Union D-type (Modified class) were the cars to catch.
Geoff’s Talbot Lago can be forgiven for breaking down (again!) after all, it is French. The breakdown cost him 2nd place in class as Brian’s Vanwall just keeps going and finished a comfortable 2nd in class behind Kev’s Auto Union.
Mike H’s Cooper feels a little lightweight but what a smooth runner, winning Heat #6.
A shout out to Ed’s Lancia Ferrari D50 (Standard class), a Cartrix car set up by Brian flew round to an easy win in Heat #1.
Joel borrowed Andy’s Bimotore and won Heat #3, he drove well tonight and enjoyed his visit.
We witnessed a prime ‘50p Trophy’ event as Ed, Mike H & Joel all finished less than half a lap apart with Joel being awarded the ‘50p Trophy’ for tonight.
Wins in heat order for Ed, Kev, Joel, Andy, Mike H & Brian
[attachment=31120]
Classic F1/F1
[attachment=31119]
I think tonight was a first…all eight NSR F1 (Standard class) event.
Joel, Ed and Mike H again lined up for their first of three races together, it became obvious that Mike should have been replaced by Gav in this class of racing as his blue NSR was in reality closely chasing Geoff’s Camel NSR. He didn’t have it all his own way however as Heat #3 saw Ed’s NSR finish on the same lap.
Gav bore the brunt of some ‘heavy duty banter’ as he raced alongside Andy’s NSR in Heat #2 and between Andy & Kev in Heat #7…thankfully he’s thick skinned and game for a laugh although his infamous jokes have been thin on the ground recently. Kev’s yellow NSR was not only very quick (a 30 lapper in Blue lane) but only two deslots all night meant Andy’s NSR with half a dozen deslots wasn’t going to keep up despite almost getting a 30 lapper in Red lane.
Brian’s NSR Toshiba F1 has had a bit of ballast tuning and looks stuck to the track, probably the best it’s ever gone tonight managed almost 82 laps to finish a few laps behind Andy.
Gav & Joel finished a few laps off the pace, Joel only managing three laps more than the Bimotore in the earlier GP races, these are completely different beasts to drive than the skinny GP cars. Gav really struggled in Red lane with the lowest single lane score in this class but his single lap pace is very quick.
Geoff’s NSR had a best run in Yellow lane, on the pace of both Brian & Andy but another one suffering in the relatively difficult red lane.
These are a bit of a shock after tiptoeing carefully round with the GP cars, these NSR’s feel like they can be thrashed but a few visits into the wall quickly slows you down to reality.
Wins in heat order for Mike H, Andy & Kev

RE: MSCC 2023 Race results & reports etc. -
Kevan - 28th-Jul-23
Race reports - 27th July - Small Sports/Saloons plus Group 5
A good turnout of club members and visitors tonight, eight racers meant a 3+5 split.
Small Sports/Saloons
[attachment=31149]
This is a truly diverse class, these may be small cars on narrow tyres but some are nipping at the heels of the larger Saloons. The majority are modified specials but a couple of Standard class Revo saloons were seen in practice, Kev’s Alfa and Nigel’s BMW. Nigel’s BMW had a major motor failure so couldn’t make it’s race debut but Kev’s Alfa showed these go pretty well for Standard class.
One sole Standard class car, Kev’s Alfa GTAm has raced once or twice before and goes at least as well as some of the quicker Open class cars, these Revoslots require an adjustment to your driving style but a great ‘RTR’ racer.
Andy’s Merc 300 SLR was away in a flash and not seen again until the racing was over.
The trio of cars chasing the Merc in the Open class ended up headed by Geoff’s Jag XK120 but closely followed by Brian’s Ferrari and Chris’s Alpine A110S.
Brian (Red) and Geoff (Blue) finished on the same lap in Heat #2, Chris (Yellow) and Brian (Blue) finished on the same lap in Heat #4.
Chris set the second fastest score in Red lane and lost a couple of laps in Blue which would have seen him finish ahead of Geoff.
Ed, Mike H & Nigel raced each other all night with both Ed and Mike managing heat wins whilst Nigel managed a couple of second places.
Two Mini’s in this group and it was good to see they both went surprisingly well and maybe seen on a Rally stage sometime soon (next week possibly).
Nigel raced Brian’s trusty Big Healey, Brian always managed 21 lappers with it in the past so Nigel did well tonight…the BMW 2002 Ti will be back another day.
Wins in heat order for Mike, Kev, Ed & Andy
[attachment=31151]
Group 5
[attachment=31150]
It’s not often we see different cars in this class, everyone seems to race the same car every time, even so there’s a good mix and more importantly Standard class is always represented.
Standard cars seen tonight, Geoff’s BMW, Chris’s Skyline and Mike’s Mustang, all standard Racer Sideways cars. Geoff has his BMW well sorted and is more than competitive with the modifieds as well. Chris raced the Skyline well, this year in particular it’s gone fantastically well. Mike’s Mustang is definitely improving and went well in Yellow lane.
Four Modified class cars, Kev’s BMW M1, Brian’s Capri, Ed’s Porsche 935 and Nigel racing a club BMW 320i. Brian’s Capri is definitely down on pace of late by nearly two tenths, tyres really need replacing and couldn’t catch Kev’s M1. Nigel struggled to be consistent in his first race but had a clean run in Blue lane.
Andy raced the only Open class car, his BMW M1 one lap per lane quicker than the rest and had three clean runs.
Wins in heat order for Ed, Andy, Mike & Kev
