RE: RacerSideways Group5 ZakSpeed Capri - Nonfractal - 25th-Sep-21

First "in  anger" race night with the sideways capri.
Purchased at the end of 2019 for use in the 2020 season, well we all know what happened to that plan.
Car is factory specification apart from the rear tyres which are NSR reds
Track is Ninco , nascotwood slot car club

In short, the capri was every bit a match for most of  the bmw m1 cars at the meeting.

2 instances of start line power deslot.  Angry
Perplexingly, the car has a tendancy to lift out of the slot and turn right across the lanes.
Tyres are glued, rims are not slipping on the axle, contrate not slipping.
My usual fix for this is a softer spring in the front motor mount pivot point, but in this class no suspension is permitted.
The power deslot is a side effect of the "springboard"  pod setup.
Only 4 of the 6 pod screws are used.
The mid points are loose, the front locked down
This approach allows the rear of the pod to float creating a suspension effect without springs.

An alternative motor mount setup technique is the "see saw"
All 6 mount points are used , the front and rear are very loose and the pod pivots around the centre mounts which are tighter.
This method will tame power delot but at a cost to cornering stability.

The first approach will be a gram of weight behind the guide and some washers and silicone gel under the mind point screw heads.
"Weight!" I hear you say...
When racing production factory spec cars, tuning methods of last resort are sometimes the only method permitted.
Weight will dampen the (very good) acceleration of this car but will keep the front down.
Compromise compromise.

RESULTS
4th position on the night.(of 14 racers)
Behind A BMW m1 (Mark long) A Nissan Skyline (Martin dixon) and another capri (Marc abbot) by only 13 tenths after 75 laps.

In summary, my BMW m1 cars were getting a bit old.
Both are now retrofitted with high power long can inlines for use at Londonslotcarclub.com , wood green.
The capri is every bit as good as my m1 pair ever was.

The Celica was tested on the night and shows much promise.
More track time needed.
