Racer Sideways Ford Escort Group 5 - woodcote - 12th-Mar-21

Racer Sideways have just released these pictures of the first tests shots from the mould of their forthcoming Group 5 Zakspeed Escort...

The Zakspeed Mk2 Escort is a great addition to the Sideways Group 5 grid. Racing in the DRM in the mid to late 70s, Zakspeed prepared just five cars - although there are dozens of 'Zakspeed' replicas and conversions around today. This is one of the best of the recreations...



Back to the Sideways model...

The nice, wide racing car promises to fit well with the other Group 5 cars in the range...

There's no release information yet, but with the first shots from the mould done, the project certainly has momentum...

Pre-production samples of the first two liveries have just arrived at Racer HQ in France...

Sideways SW79 Ford Escort Mk2 RS Turbo Zakspeed #2 'D&W' - Walter Nussbaumer DRM Zolder 1979.

SW76 Ford Escort Mk2 RS Turbo Zakspeed #53 'Mampe' - Armin Hahne DRM Norisring 1978.

Both are classic DRM liveries - and both scheduled to be produced by Teamslot in 2021 (see here). There are plenty of classic and modern liveries to go around and the two makes will probably appeal to different markets - the Teamslot cars selling at a lower price point.


These ones will - of course - fit perfectly into the popular Racer Sideways Group 5 range...

Both Racer Sideways and Teamslot have been fighting an uphill battle to get their Escort Zakspeed models to market. From a recent post on the Racer Facebook page, it looks like they will win the race - claiming the Mampe liveried Escort will be shipped to distributors in 'early March'...

No firm news on the various Teamslot Zakspeeds, but I did hear that they are not far off. It could still be a close-run thing.

The Black/Yellow /Red is out, not mad on that, but the Black/Blue one I may get when its out.
Notably, the white kits didn't surface at the same time for some reason

Received mine today, usual sideways fit and finish that I rate quite highly. 

May struggle in a straight fight against the other group 5s as it's short, narrow chassid and tall, the body also comes in at 20g with no interior or wing attached. But short overhangs and a pretty optimised guide to rear axle length so who knows! Will be able to test it out in a couple of weeks time.
