Use these functions to create multi-lane layouts. The 2-lane layout to start from must meet the following requirements:

1)        The required curves must be available from the track system.

1)        Curves must be placeable on the side where the sections should be created. If for example the tightest curve is used as a turn to the right and the sections for the lanes 3&4 should be placed also on the right, no corresponding inner curved section is available. In this case the transformation into a 4-lane layout fails.

1)        Layouts containing sections of varying track width cannot be converted.

The track sections needed for the creation of lanes > 2 can be placed to the left or right of the 2-lane layout. The placement on both sides at once is not possible.

Multi-lane layouts may be edited just like 2-lane layouts. Note that adding, updating, inserting and deleting sections may fail if the structure of the layout would violate the requirements above. If the corresponding operation cannot be completed, an error message is displayed.

Apart from that the following aspects result from the use of multi-lane layouts:

1)        Although the layout now consists of two or more layouts in parallel, further editing is done on the layout for lanes 1&2. The sections for lanes 3&4 are updated automatically. Editing sections for this “second” layout manually is not possible.

1)        Track borders may be set as for 2-lane layouts. They are set as if the parallel sections would be a single “extra-wide” section.

1)        If for example 2 curved sections are used for lanes 1&2 but only one part for lanes 3&4 (since the larger curve is of the same angle as two smaller curves), the two curved sections are treated “as one”. They cannot be updated or deleted individually.

1)        The dynamic generation of parallel sections results in loopings being generated “inside each other”. This is not possible when the layout is actually built. Parallel loopings have to be separated by using straight sections.

Of course multi-lane layouts may be re-converted to 2 lanes. Note that changes done in the meantime are not undone (e.g. changes done automatically to create a 4-lane layout).
