So here's a little rip round with my new favourite car (which, has been sitting idle since I first acquired it - I should have recomissioned it/ got it back into action *months* ago) - the Jaguar Xj220.

But I thought I'd share the latest incarnation of my layout.
As I mentioned in my 'Introduce Yourself'  post, almost a year ago, I was gifted 5 full sets of Scalextric, which were a mixture of old and new track/connector type, followed by yet another kit (an old but complete Rallye Internationale) gifted by someone else, then a Jaguar XJ220/Ferrari F40 kit practically *stolen* from a charity shop for 15 Sterlings, along with lashings of separate bits-&-bobs of track from eBay, and new stuff from the model shop in town.
Predictably though, it was a tad flakey and unreliable in places, specifically due to the older stuff, so I've now completely ditched that in favour new style track now.
I also plumbed in a custom LEGO train, because why not:

Its not as bad as it sounds as the loft is all insulated and boarded in the roof trusses and so not to cold even whenthe outside temperature is low.

I was going to fetch the mdf but whilst on holiday in france last week my car decided to blow its turbo so its stranded there for a few weeks!!.
So if anyone wants to follow my trials and tribulations I'll continue posting.
I have some small scrap mdf pieces to practice on to get me started.

That way it would be a smooth transition and I’d only have to route the parallel lanes around it. Took a bit longer than the traditional way but came out ok, now technically this is not the best race line. best line would be to cross the middle directly to inside, but I wanted to give the option to middle lane to a faster or “real race car” line, just playing with ideas

here I present my project, a module for my ‘still’ Carrera carpet railway. I tried to create as realistic a landscape as possible on the track module. In addition to the colour scheme of the track surface, the raised kerbs, rocks, ground design with earth and artificial turf (electrostatic grassing) and crash barriers were particularly important to me. For the latter, the crash barriers, despite numerous attempts with different materials, I couldn't avoid buying the crash barriers from a sheet metal modeller because I liked them so much.

I would like to build a complete track in this (or a similar) style one day - if I have enough time.

here I present my project, a module for my ‘still’ Carrera carpet railway. I tried to create as realistic a landscape as possible on the track module. In addition to the colour scheme of the track surface, the raised kerbs, rocks, ground design with earth and artificial turf (electrostatic grassing) and crash barriers were particularly important to me. Right now I am installing the clear guard rails (1.5 mil clear plastic, the kind you use to protect your grandmothers dining room table!).  My grandson came over last night for dinner, and we turned a few laps...nothing more satisfying than a 4y/o squealing in delight!!!
