Hi Folks,
I have the Scaleauto SC-5040 tire truer. (Photo below for reference) It has served me well over the years, but I would like to move away from the sanding drums to an abrasive metal drum. Does anyone know if the SC-5073B abrasive drum intended for the "newer" SC-5072 EVO 2 truer fits the older one. For reference, the shaft in the 5040 is 5mm and the drum diameter with abrasive mounted is ~34mm.

Thanks!
Back in 2020 I wrote a ten-part series on the Jadlam blog about tuning a Scalextric car. My aim was to work through the steps for improving a standard Scalextric model by only using the parts that came in the box. I picked the new at the time Mustang GT4, because I thought there might be quite a lot of potential for improvement... And I wasn't wrong!

Jadlams have recently built a brand new website and the blog has gone. So I've dug out the images and text to post on the forum. I've had some good feedback over the years about the blog posts and I want to share the series with a new crop of Scalextric racers at my club, Worthing HO Racing.

There is a post introducing and linking to the blog posts on the SlotRacer forum here. I'll edit that once the posts are up on this thread.

It was race night and I'm now in the fortunate position to be able to go to the club early as I'm officially an old age pensioner (66 UK) as of last week which means I have more free time.

Thanks to Nolakers tyre cleaning on a figure of 8 track for 10 hours, I put the wheels back on the truer to clean up for about an hour, then fit them to the car destined for a UK proxy (Targa Florio).

At the club track an hour early, tried the car I'd used for testing last week (NSR Porsche 917) with a set of known good Ultragrips and was unimpressed by the cars handling...time for a rethink.

Get another proxy car out, a Fly WSC 95 Joest Porsche with my 3D chassis/pod and tried the 'zero graining' tyres...that's more like it. Did a few laps then decided to try another proxy car which is a lovely runner, a Fly Porsche 908/3 with my 3D chassis and SlotIt SW pod...an immediate improvement, these tyres aren't as bad as I thought, lets keep going and I must have done about 100 laps with them and they were starting to polish with little tyre dust so decided on a proper test.

First photo is after about 100 laps on our polyurethane painted wood track.

100 laps.JPG Size: 1.49 MB Downloads: 110

Those are looking much better than they did after running the NSR Porsche 917.

I then did another 100 laps in 33 lap segments, cleaning with tape. This next photo is after 200 laps, fastest lap was 6.038 which is quick for a proxy car on our track.

200 lap times.JPG Size: 2.51 MB Downloads: 118

200 laps.JPG Size: 1.14 MB Downloads: 114

Then I ran another 100 laps in 33 lap segments, fastest laps was 5.906 which is as good as this car has gone on treated original Ultragrips. The rubber cleaned off the tyres on the tape is 300 laps worth.

Then I ran 100 laps non stop...fastest lap didn't improve but regular 5.9's is excellent. Rubber cleaned off the tyres is shown on the tape.

Finally, I swapped the tyres round and ran another 100 laps. Initially lap times were down but gradually started dropping again and will be in the 5.9's

So I take it all back...thanks to Nolakers, I decided to revisit these and confident they will easily last a round of a proxy series without performance dropping off.

One other thing, the NSR Porsche 917 I had intended entering in the proxy is being replaced by this Fly 908/3 with Predator 22k.

Morning!

After some help please.

Our original club track we built is a four lane, routed track, 12mm mdf. You can find it in the Show us your track section, under Routed Raceway.
Until last year it was permanently mounted onto a very large board, with an electric winch system to lower it into place for racing. It is now no longer permanently mounted, and now goes together much like a jigsaw, in 9 pieces of differing size.
To power it up would involve soldering 154 sections of copper tape, just for one evenings racing. They would then need removing to store it again until next time

So, has anyone used, or come across, or have knowledge of, 6mm highly conductive copper tape that could be used without the need to make 154 soldered joints. Just need something that will stick straight on, bridge the gap, and give us power without the need for soldering.
Other option is to solder one complete lane where required, and butt each section together, and see how it goes.....

Any help or thoughts appreciated
Personally speaking, although I tried more exotic types (Rubber toughened) Specialised slot car tyre adhesives in the past, I never felt that they have lasted that long. I have therefore tended to revert to the “off the shelf” Superglue which I use on my Club cars over many months without having to re glue them.

So I wondered what other people’s experience is, I can see that the common Superglue is rather hard, and that others tend to be “softer” and should in theory give a better ride properties to the tyres on the wheels, but is there a REALLY GOOD tyre adhesive which is soft and flexible and gives longer term adhesion ?

If you know of a machine sold to RC racers that definitely works for some kind(s) of slot car wheels, please mention it.
The list is divided into machines designed for metal wheels, usually only truing one wheel/tire at a time, and machines that are designed to hold the whole axle of the car with both wheels still attached and being trued at the same time.
Most treatments work well with rubber tyres on the track from 3in1 oil to RC tyre treatments, Koala Klaws, NSR oil, bicycle chain cleaning oil, Olbas oil, Tea Tree oil...I've tried allsorts, there isn't one 'best' as it's more important to get the right tyres in the first place which are NSR Ultragrips (NOT the Evo's) which are sadly long out of production and getting hard to find.

Some tyres don't need treatment on this new track surface but if raced carefully they polish to a shine, stock Revoslot tyres, Thunderslot 002 (again can't find these in the UK) and given time even NSR Evo Supergrips.

Well I found a bottle of something I bought probably 30 years ago and most of it is still there...Redex for petrol. This is the old style round bottle and has a strong smell, in fact the same smell as my old Toolroom overcoat.

I thought 'why not' and smeared some thinly round a pair of NSR Ultras on one of my cars. There wasn't really any noticeable improvement for over an hour and much better the morning after, now this is a good sign for me as 'instant grip' treatments have always been short lived so will be trying this on Thursday night.
My only concern is will the Redex attack the rubber too aggressively so that it crumbles...time will tell.

And what are those two members for that stick out from each side of the chassis adjacent to the motor pod? I need to cut them off as they interfere with the fit of the body.

Not sure if this is limited to Scalextric or not, but I have a few cars that have trouble drifting in turns. It's hard to describe maybe and I haven't had time to make a video. The cars seem to drift fine up to a point, but if they drift too far away from the rails, perhaps 15 degrees or so, then violently bounce back in the other direction back towards the rails and then de-slot. It seems as though the guide blade gets stuck or reaches a hard limit of how far it will rotate then bounces back quickly the other way. Not all my cars do this, but the ones that do it really takes away from the fun. To me drifting is like the best part of racing, approaching being out of control / too fast, but then recovering.
