Our 2027 season equals this year's record of 33 events at the Barn, with exactly the same events on the calendar. There are some tweaks to the dates. The three WHO Digital GT Championship Wednesdays revert to the third Wednesday of the month, two weeks after the monthly HO race. The WHO Goodwood Revival returns to its usual slot in September, with the Digital Test Night moving back to a jam-packed August. Both July and August see four events at the Barn - another action-packed summer holiday programme, which has proved very popular over the past two years.

Race fees remain at £3 adults / £2 under-16s on Wednesday nights and £6 adults / £4 under-16s for the Digital Saturdays. The Slot Rally GB Championship event in July is hosted by the club - fees and regs will be publicised in due course by the Slot Rally GB organisers.

More details about our WHO Slot Rally, Scalextric Digital and HO scale formats and regulations for next season will follow very soon.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any problems, but the recent outage meant I could put in a request to our web hosts technical department, who got back to me today.

I will be making some changes over the next few days, as the tech team have suggested, but they are site wide permission changes so if they don't work as expected it could have some unexpected consequences. But, we don't have a choice, our regular members are being put off by log in problems, so....

So as the opportunity has arrived to make a small Saloon car, I have bought a Airfix kit of the model and a Amato chassis to fit it.
Now the Rally car portrayed on the box is a rather boring looking post box red colour below.

But I remember the car I adored in my youth was this kind of 2 tone version with green upper and off white (Old English White) lower body colours. It was quite rare in those day to have 2 tone colours on the body, as the most popular colour of the basic family saloon in the late 50's was still black, and it was only at the beginning of the 60's that basic family car colours became more varied.  And 2 tone was generally limited to more luxurios level models.

So perhaps I can reproduce this old childhood dream and own one (well OK a slot car version)  Heart

That got to be too much of a pain in the butt and I also liked the idea of digital racing where you could have more than one car on a lane, that way more people (read grandkids) could race. So I sold the classic track and was able to buy a bunch of Scalextric digital stuff. I built a 16' x 7' table, with fold up legs that were curved on one end so I could tilt the table up against the wall and get the cars back in the garage. I messed with it a few times just to see if it worked but never got to finish it because 3 more grandkids came along and . . . well you know how it goes.

Lately I decided to get back to the track (less babysitting) but found that my 78 year old body was having some difficulty lifting the track to tilt it onto its side against the wall. It's all 2x4s, OSB and Plywood, plus the track pieces. So I thought building one out of galvanized steel studs would be lighter, which it is. Then someone one on another forum suggested I go to a routed track using MDF. So I figured I'd give it a try. I found a few threads on how to insert the Scalextic lane change and pit lane sections into the MDF track (some were less complicated than others) so I figured I'd give it a try.

I've got the steel stud frame about worked out and I'll be covering it, top and bottom with 1/4" plywood and using 1/2" MDF for the track. I've been thinking about the electrical and was wondering about being able to use the variable voltage AC to DC power supplies I bought for the old analog track. I've been searching for threads on using those with the digital power supplies but can't find anything (probably my lousy search terms). I understand that the digital systems supply full power to the track and the car's power is controlled by chips (or some electronic do dad in the car/controller). So do I even need the aftermarket power supply? The other question I had was about power taps. On my analog track I had a bunch of them. Do I need them on the digital track? If so are they run the same way as the analog track?

I have spent a lot of time in Tesco cleaner aisles but not found what looks like the same thing. Have seen Swiffer cloths and wands on Amazon but would appreciate a steer from anyone who has actually bought the UK equivalent.

I was looking for the AFX 1:64 stuff, but cannot find anything new in the UK. Space is an issue, I am in a small bungalow.

I was looking for the Carrera 1:43 stuff as they say even though it is bigger it takes up roughly the same space as AFX. BUT, I cannot find any of that in the UK new in shrink.

If I was going to go for Carrera 1:43, do you have to buy a track pack(s) and then buy cars and controls separately? Are there any all-in-one boxes.

The new Carrera Hybrid stuff looks good, but it appears to need both racers having one of them new fangled smart-phone thingies. Is there any chance in the future that Carrera could do a non smart phone version for people who are 'smart' enough not to have bought into the smart-phone craze?

The one that looks the ****best**** to me by a mile is the Carrera 1:32. It looks fantastic, but after having seeing some videos, I would have to build another wing to my bungalow. The neighbours are not going to be happy about that, as their garage next to us will have to come a cropper.

One thing I should add, is we not be having a fixed build if that is important. We will be putting it up and packing it away, every time we play.

As for style, I think I would like some sort of porshe or posh car, or touring car, or NASCAR, that kind of style. Are there any box sets with that?

So, any advice, especially where to get this stuff in the UK at a decent price will be very helpful. Are there any shops in the UK that sell AFX, Carrera or Scalectrix?]]>

I was looking for the Carrera 1:43 stuff as they say even though it is bigger it takes up roughly the same space as AFX. BUT, I cannot find any of that in the UK new in shrink.

If I was going to go for Carrera 1:43, do you have to buy a track pack(s) and then buy cars and controls separately? Are there any all-in-one boxes.

The new Carrera Hybrid stuff looks good, but it appears to need both racers having one of them new fangled smart-phone thingies. Is there any chance in the future that Carrera could do a non smart phone version for people who are 'smart' enough not to have bought into the smart-phone craze?

The one that looks the ****best**** to me by a mile is the Carrera 1:32. It looks fantastic, but after having seeing some videos, I would have to build another wing to my bungalow. The neighbours are not going to be happy about that, as their garage next to us will have to come a cropper.

One thing I should add, is we not be having a fixed build if that is important. We will be putting it up and packing it away, every time we play.

As for style, I think I would like some sort of porshe or posh car, or touring car, or NASCAR, that kind of style. Are there any box sets with that?

So, any advice, especially where to get this stuff in the UK at a decent price will be very helpful. This time, they've chosen for the 1986 Rallye Monte Carlo version, with Michèle Mouton behind the steering wheel and Terry Harryman as navigator.
During special stage 14, the oil pressure dropped, which meant an early end of their rally.

Instead of the earlier Blue Gauloises Test Car Peugeot version with its Chrono M3 motor of 17,000 rpm and 230 grcm, the new Mouton Peugeot has a more powerful Chrono M6 motor of 20,000 rpm and 270 grcm.
To get that power onto the track, the SRC Mouton Peugeot is equipped with an ultrasoft Group B RN106 tyre set, which is specially suited for rallies:
Max 100 Black Pat RN0115 ø17.6x10.3 rear tyres and low-profile RN0107 front tyres.
To lower the centre of gravity, metal weights have been mounted on top of the base plate.
Total weight of the car is 90 grams.

Anyway, I started with buying a bunch of Scalextric classic track and building a track on three 4x8 tables that folded up in the garage.  I sold that track and bought Scalextric digital track.  I liked the idea of being able to race more than 2 cars at the same time.  I built a table that is 16’ x 7’. It tilts up against the wall of the garage on plywood legs that are curved at the back.  

I’m now trying to figure out if I can build a track out of MDF and have it on a table with a metal stud frame because the current track is getting too heavy to lift as I get older ?. I’m also looking at suspending it from the ceiling and using a winch to raise and lower it.  I think I have the frame any table figured out and I think I can rig up a pulley system that will allow me to lift it up and down.  The height is limited by storage racks and the garage door opener but there’s just enough room to get it up to where we will be able to walk under it.  


I’m now trying to figure out how to best incorporate the lane changers and pit lane system into the MDF track.   


That’s where I am at this point.  I found links tosome posts on here that showed the lane changers into MDF tracks but after I registered I couldn’t find them again.  I’ll keep looking.

A few months ago we bought some Carrera GO!!! on a fleamarket for the grandchildren and that rekindled my racing spirit.  
Soon after I 'happened' upon two Fly 1/32 slot cars I really liked: a white Lola T70 MK3b and a yellow Ferrari 512S.  From there I bought some accompanying track (Carrera 124) which came with a couple of cars.

Most of you will know the joy of used slotcars - they need tires and repairs!  The Carrera cars are generally OK after cleaning and putting on fresh tires and braids, but the Fly cars turn out to be very lady-like: they are oh so beautiful and I could never part with them, but they do have a temperament and need a lot of attention.

My first steps into 1/32 are therefore more fixing than racing - but that's OK as I like tinkering with mechanical toys.]]>

Our August Scalextric digital evening coincided with a rare 90% partial solar eclipse, so we thought it best to combine the two. Twenty-four racers came along, plus another five to see the eclipse - all sharing one pair of eclipse glasses (1999 vintage) and a colander. 

It was all rather entertaining  Cool

As for the racing, Simon had designed us a new fast-flowing circuit that filled pretty much the whole of the Barn...

Our 24 racers were divided into six teams of four, each featuring a young driver, a Gold or Silver seeded driver and a rookie. The Nascars started rolling at 7.25pm, a little later than usual, with the plan being a shortened race of two 20 minute segments...

It really was a quick circuit and there were plenty of fuel stops in the first 20 minutes (the tyre simulation would be added for the second segment). Oliver and Ryan's teams battled it out, both finishing on 99 laps - Isaac's team two laps behind in third. Eight laps separated the entire field at half way...
