Ginetta in WEC LMP1
#11

The WEC returns this weekend - it's the 8 hours of Bahrain...

The first free practice session is just about to end. Qualifying is Friday lunchtime and the race runs from midday to 8pm (GMT) on Saturday.

Bahrain is the longest test so far for the Team LNT Ginetta G60-LT-P1 cars. It's also the first race into the night - the Bahrain lights are dimmed to 50% of the brightness of the F1 race. The cooler evening air should be good for the AER V6 Turbo engines, not that the Ginettas have been short of horsepower - fastest through the speed traps at Fuji and a front row start and fastest race lap in Shanghai.

There are some changes to the driver line-ups. Ben Hanley stays in the #5 car and is joined by Sebring LMP2 winner Jordan King, plus works driver Charlie Robertson, who moves back from the #6 car. Chris Dyson finally makes his debut in the #6 car and lines up alongside Guy Smith and Mike Simpson.

It was close at the top - the Rebellion beating the #5 Ginetta to pole by 0.144 seconds. The Toyotas occupy row two and the #6 Ginetta is fifth - all the LMP1s covered by nine tenths of second.

It was a pretty chaotic race at Bahrain and disappointment for Ginetta, with both cars retiring with transmission problems.

The chaos continued with the next round in Brazil cancelled and replaced by a six hour race at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas on 23 February. The two Ginettas will be sitting out CoTA - the team announced last week that the cars would return to the UK for planned maintenance ahead of the 1000 miles of Sebring in March. The cars have not been back to base since the Silverstone race last summer.

However, the CoTA six hours will feature one of the new Corvette C8Rs and the Dragonspeed LMP2 team - the #63 Corvette will also race at Sebring. When the WEC returns to Europe, Rebellion will return to running two cars at Spa and then Le Mans. Meanwhile, the 2020-21 season dates have been announced and the calendar includes a race at Kyalami next February - the first visit of the WEC to South Africa.

Ginetta's trip to Sebring was scuppered by Coronavirus. But DriveTribe have just posted this new video of how the G60 LT-P1 was designed and built...

It's a fascinating watch Thumbup

Watched the video and just started wondering if we would ever of has such a wonderful and varied collection of group c cars if each of the designers had had CAD modelling and had just "shrink wrapped the regulation template"...
