I know, what a waste...

The contents could easily be documented in the original form, and then the kit built to preserve it as intended.

I don't believe anyone cares to see parts in a box. I would bet 95% of people would want to see the finished product, the car built.

Most definitely.

But when the people that have the collection of unbuilt boxes passes away, all that's left is still an unbuilt box. If it was built as intended, someone or many people, could get joy from it today.

One of the things I love about our hobby is its diversity.

I'm not a collector, but I love seeing Bernard's rarities, just because they are so rare that I'm never going see them in real life.

I guess another point is that an unbuilt box kit can still be built at any time, whereas the ones that were built, were probably smashed up decades ago. 

If every boxed kit had been built and raced, we wouldn't be looking at the Honda S600 now. The box art is really good too, well worth preserving, IMHO.
