Love this car, though a bit on the small side to my eye. Stilll got one from gawd knows when, though I have put a new chassis in it from PSR. Slides around the corners beautifullly and is a match for my Lamborghini Muira and Triumphs Dolomite and TR7. Wish someone would make another - though I understand that Pre-Wing do a body.
It doesn't fall apart whilst driving it - unlike the 1:1 scale vehicle I had as a company car back in the 80s!

One of my favourite cars of my youth - so a perfect opportunity to dig it out of the Woodcote Racing Museum...
I think my love of driving big, tail-happy saloons came from the Rover. Towards the end of my first Scalextric obsession, we (family and friends) did some Rally Cross events and the Rover was my car - up against Porsches, Minis and Escorts. I made the Rally Cross start straight, where we covered the hashed rectangles with 3-in-1 oil to give a slippy first half of a lap, with traction coming back about half-way. Each driver ran three heats of three and a half laps - with a grand final for the two most successful cars in the heats. I seem to remember particularly ungentlemanly driving in the Rally Cross races... I found some track plans and 'rules' in with some of my old cars and track - the two Rally Cross circuits were Brands Hatch and Aintree, both dating to when I was 14.
Of course, we soon discovered that once the oil soaked into the tyres and dried, we were left with some ultra-grippy tyres. That led to a final summer of sensational Indy Car oval racing and then I had a break for twenty years.

Hello Chadow,
I have long had much respect for the Rover SD1 (P10?) even the six-cylinder versions. Scalextric-wise I have much fondness for their version and have most of the varieties including the police versions.
They drive very easily although very fast due to the bulk. Not sure if it is my imagination but they have a pleasing sound/grunt.

Hi Leo,
I agree, here is my own version. As I had said above, it now sits on a PSR chassis and wheels, which I think, makes the car look even better. Still use it in my 1970s/80s races, alongside Stags, BMWs et al.
I have also seen the GTM do various versions of the SD1 - anyone put one together?
Chas

LOL - missed the crucial "not" from this sentence, but you probably realised that.
"They drive very easily although not very fast due to the bulk. "
Those wheels suit the Rover Chas.

Leo. I don't know your car can make it around the track without falling over. Just look at those skinny tires!

Hi Leo
Apologies, it is Pre-Wing not GTM. Looks good, how does it run? Very tempted with the TR7 too...

Thanks, I built this for a proxy that didnt happen due to Covid and then sold it to an English enthusiast.
The chassis is a wire, brass plumber style and the car was very stable and predictable.
